The Old Town Canoe Snap-in Center Seat snugly snaps over vinyl gunwales and stays in place until you pop it out. It provides an easy and quick way to add a third seat to tandem canoe. The Snap-in center seat fits in the middle of all Old Town Canoes with widths of 34" to 37". The rugged design can hold an adult or two children and carries up to 300 lbs. Consider a snap-in seat, oar sockets and oarlocks and you have a rowing canoe.
Love it. Low enough to feel grandkids are safe, high enough for them to easily see out.
Seat fit beautifully on our Old Town Camper canoe. However, the seat increased the instability of the canoe. It also popped off and sunk when the canoe flipped over.
Seat fits in my Old Town Appalachian. I use it for 8 year old...however I'm not sure I would trust it for an adult. It might be ok but it seems to flex a bit when 175lb me sits in it.
We gave our Old Town 16' Penobscot canoe to our daughter and son-in-law several years ago, but it didn't get used too much until a move close to RI waters sparked renewed interest. However, two granchildren siting on the bottom prompted the need for an upgrade. Enter the Old Town Canoe Snap-In Center Seat upgrade. A great birthday gift idea. It fits perfectly centered pretty much in the center of the canoe. Following recommendations from other reviewers I drilled a small hole in the seat and attached 3' of paracord so they can lash the seat to a thwart should the Snap-In seat become dislodged in deep water. Everyone is happy with this upgade, and grandpa gets to see his old friend with a new life on Rhode Island estuaries, ponds and lakes.
