It's like paddling a barge, but a really stable and comfortable barge. The Topwater is significantly slower and more laborious to paddle than my Trident 13, especially heading into the wind. Different boats for different purposes. The Topwater is amazingly stable and comfortable, and I like the simple deck layout. With the cooler temperatures in Central Texas today I was half-tempted to take a nap on the Topwater this afternoon, it's that stable and with the clean deck you can stretch out and relax. The only negative I can think of is how painfully slow it is. It does track extremely well. Considering all the pluses with this kayak I can live with the slowness. Overall it's a great kayak and I'm happy with the purchase.

Ultra stable kayak at a great price! I have been very happy with my Topwater 120. The wide open cockpit makes standing easy. The tracks made rigging easy and I didn’t need to drill any holes. Tons of storage areas for tackle and the tank well fits a crate or cooler. Unique hull design makes this kayak very stable. It’s also light enough for me to car top. Best of all it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Top Question & Answer
Q: Will this be available with a PDL system in 12'
A: No, it will not. There are only three Topwater models: The 106, 120, and PDL. The 106 and 120 models do not even have a center console for mounting a pedal drive, so even if you purchased a pedal drive separately, it could not be installed. These two models are for paddling only; they also do not have a rudder. The PDL is the only Topwater model that has, and can use, a pedal drive system. The PDL model has a very similar hull design to the 106, but is actually slightly different (wider) to accommodate the PDL console. Old Town likely chose not to make the Topwater 106 and 120 models with a center consoles and upgradable to pedal drive due to their price point, and likely skipped making a 12' Topwater PDL to avoid encroaching on their Predator series of kayaks.

Q: Which paddle size you suggest for this topwater 120
A: Paddle length is going to depend on your height, as well as the width of the kayak. If you are over 6' I would say a 250cm would be good, and if you are under 6', go with a 240cm!
