We purchased 2 Next after doing tons of research on kayaks that are sit on top that work well with dogs. They arrived and were huge but just because were used to 10ft ones. The amount of space is awesome!! We plan on going on 3 day trips with these and we will have plenty of room. They handle awesome and are so comfy! We did have an issue with the seat not staying in the groove and falling out but I emailed old town and they sent me extra bottom straps for free and it fixed the issue. I would highly recommend these kayaks for someone looking to do longer trips and/or kayaking with dogs.
I purchased the Old Town Next from ACK hoping it would be the perfect solo canoe for my needs. I'm very happy to say it exceeded my expectations. I was used to paddling a Discovery 158 converted to solo. What a huge difference in control and speed the Next was. It's a stable canoe and very comfortable. The seat is extremely comfortable. Not once did the seat come out of its anchor points like reviews I've seen in the past. Tighten up the supplied strap and you're good to go. I'm 6' 240 and had plenty of freeboard. I went on a float trip with friends who rented aluminum canoes and I found myself having to constantly stop or slow down to let them catch up. With a double bladed paddle this thing will fly. Not much effort/power is needed either. Everyone I was with wants one now. I'm so happy with my Next. I can see many fun trips ahead now that I have this canoe. The Bow and stern seats are going back into the Discovery 158 for sure now. The Next was THE answer to what I wanted when I'm going solo. Don't hesitate if you've been wondering about this one like I did since it came out. You'll be happy with it!
