Product Description and Specs

The new Wilderness Systems Thresher 140 kayak is designed to take on big water, the efficiency and speed of the hull satisfies the need to paddle long distances. The voluminous rails that provide the stability and predictability needed for breaching ocean waves and enduring tumultuous swells while the keeled yet rockered bow and stern allow the Thresher to gracefully surf its way back to shore after a long day on the water. The Thresher 140 features the Flex Pod OS, a fully integrated, fully removable pod to store your fishfinder, battery, and cables. The transducer mount on the bottom of the pod fits through a generously sized scupper so even large transducers fit with no problem. The Thresher has an over-sized, covered bow hatch and a center pod console that can fit up to 8 foot rods. The rear tankwell is open for easy access to your gear or for a large fish bag. The Thresher is outfitted with the Phase 3 AirPro seating system and adjustable foot braces. Discontinued model.

The thresher 140 is a dream kayak, it's very comfortable and spacious. Sitting side saddle makes the whole kayak accessible to the angler. On flat water and paddling up a river this kayak is excellent. I bought it for BTB all I can say is it handles 5 foot surf but do not recommend. But smaller swells no problem. It's a great kayak.

The Thresher 140 kayak is a great angler's kayak. There are some positives and negatives for this boat, but the positives outweight the negatives. It was designed mainly for offshore use and it handles great on the ocean. I would recomend getting a rudder, when I purchased mine there was an issue with their "new" pedal controls and they were unavailable, but I'm looking forward to getting one on the boat. PROS: At 28.7 in wide and 14.3 feet, this boat is a quick paddle and easy to start, important factor when your paddling furture distances to get to the fishing grounds. The center well is great for storing rods and gear, especaily if your going btb and dont want to break a rod if you flip. Bow flair to help with breaking through waves. The fish finder pod is great idea, very convient and was the selling point for myself. I would suggest mounting it on the center well/ rail system and not on the pod becasue notherwise its far away, making it hard to mess with and difficult to see the small screens unless you shimmy your way up. Its very nice and easy to remove the entire system, takes seconds and its all "One unit" and stays together. Very stable for its width, even when you need to sit sidways in your boat because you drank 2 cups of coffee and a large Redbull before 7am to give you the courage to get into your cold wetsuit and get your gear rigged up. Cons: 1)The seat is very comfortable compared to your standard kayak seat, but many companies nowadays are creating large, height adjustable seats (including the Wilderness ATAK) that are far superior to the Threshers. Not sure if you can upgrade. You can lift up the leg/butt part which is comfortable. Overall its a mid-range seat, but still vastly nicer compared to the basic ones. 2)The boat is heavy. At 75 lbs (lighter than many larger boats that weigh ~85lbs) and 14 feet its awkward and a little difficult to load SOLO onto your roof racks, a lot easier if you have kayak craddles you can slide it up onto. With 2 people its easy, not to mention many people go out with a buddy anyways. 3)The Transducer pod is not waterproof so you need to add a little tape to the front side to prevent spray from getting in. Wilderness should design one with a gasket on the inside, or you design one yourself. I gave the Thresher a 4 out of 5. Of all the boats in the $1400 range it is the best all around. If your looking to get to the fishing grounds quickly and safetly land those big fish, this is your boat. Not to mention they come in a lot of great colors, I got the camo but i wish i got the orange dusk!

Q: I see that there is no rudder option on the yak. Does that mean that the rudder comes built in with it? If not, do yall sell the rudder?
A: thank you for your question. the wilderness rudders are not available until late September.

Q: The thresher comes pre-molded with a bushing to accept a rudder pin similar to the rudder for the Focus. I see that the rudder which was designed for the Thresher, the Wilderness Systems Course Control, has been discontinued due to design flaws. Since this kayak was premolded to accept a pin which locks by turning 180 degrees, there aren't any holes on the stern to mount a gudgeon. I would really prefer to avoid drilling if possible when this kayak was designed to accept a rudder without it. Before I drill, what options are available for rudder currently or in the foreseeable future to use the bushing that is already pre-molded?
A: Hi, Thank you for the question. We are not sure as to what the plans are by Wilderness systems as far as product design goes, unfortunately. There are a variety of brackets that will work specifically for WS kayaks. If you would like, you can send us a photo of the current stern configuration where you would want to mount the rudder pin or bracket and we can make a better recommendation. You can send a photo to
