One of the most common question we receive is "what size kayak paddle do I need". Having the right size paddle is one of the most important factors in having an enjoyable day out on the water. Using the wrong sized paddle can result in fatigue, blisters, and may ultimately cause you to give up kayaking. Then you would stop reading our blogs and that would make us sad.
Not all paddles are created equal. Once you’ve taken your pick of a yak, deciding on a paddle to compliment your boat and fit your needs is the next step.
Most of you probably own a paddle or two and already take advantage of what is commonly referred to as feathering but there is a good possibility that some of you don’t. For those unfamiliar with the term “feathering”, it’s the action of positioning your blades at opposite angles to one another to reduce the wind resistance while paddling.
As we approach the July 4th holiday, you can’t help but begin to experience a sense of patriotism with flags being strategically placed at the end caps of grocery store aisles and TV commercials beginning to advertise the inevitable. Seeing all this reminded me about something that Steve, ACK President, mentioned to me sometime back, the fact that we carry a huge selection of products that are either made or assembled in the USA.
We wanted to share some video footage from Werner Paddles representative Taylor Robertson from our 2012 Fall Demo Days. Taylor has been in the industry for over 14 years now and is very knowledgeable about stand up paddle boards and the paddles that go along with them.
Congratulations to Tony Valentine from the great state of Mississippi for winning the first prize, an MSR Reactor Stove System, in the ACK 2012 Outfit Your Adventure Gear Giveaway. The contest runs through early August.
A number of some ACK favorite brands like Werner Paddles, Surftech SUP and SealLine have teamed up to sponsor two friends on a 1,000+ mile journey to discover California's other half - Baja. The pair will not use any type of motorized transportation whatsoever and instead only travel by foot and stand up paddleboard for the entire 1,000+ miles.

This time, we have experienced paddler and Werner Paddles Regional Sales Manager/Field Marketing Coordinator Danny Mongno coming to both our Austin and Houston locations to present his in-store Paddles and Paddling seminar.
