As soon as it seemed to come, our 2018 KATS regular season has come to an end! This was the 12th year for the tournament series and it was one for the books.
Fishing all over Texas
This year was easily the most we have traveled in the history of KATS! Our season kicked off on Lake Somerville, we then traveled to the ever popular Sam Rayburn in the middle of our season, and rounded out the schedule with some old favorites like Fayette, and LBJ.
New this year, we held an Austin Area Road Runner! This was the first event of its kind for KATS. The anglers had an open playing field, of any public bodies of water they wished to travel to. There were no distance limits, drive time is fishing time! A lot of anglers chose to stay close on their favorite lakes and rivers, while a select few chose to travel the distance.
Our generous supporters, Oskar Blues Brewery Austin hosted us for our awards ceremony and kept our thirst at bay. All in all it was a great event!
2018 Angler of the Year: Bobby LeBeauf
Our Angler of the Year race was a nail bitter this year! Heading into the final event on Belton Lake, our top 7 anglers were all within 10 points of each other, it was anyone’s game. In the end, it came down to drops. The AOY race totals the angler’s best five of the seven events, so if anglers compete in the full season they can omit their lowest two events.
With this is mind, Bobby LeBeauf was crowned our 2018 Angler of the Year, at our last event on Belton. Bobby had a handful of top 5 finishes this season, along with taking the gold on Sam Rayburn, all of which catapulted him to the top of our leaderboard.
Bobby is a long time KATS veteran, he has been fishing our tournament trail from the very beginning! He adds this AOY title to a long list of KATS awards, including 2012 and 2014 Classic Championships and 2012 Big Bass of the Season.
We are very excited to be joining forces with Fin Factory Kayak & Tackle Co. to hold Rey Del Mar; a 2-day inshore/offshore kayak tournament! Anglers can compete in either inshore or offshore division, or both. Full details and link to register can be found here.
The KATS Classic Championship will be the final showdown for the top 25 anglers from the regular season and put them to the test over a two-day tournament. The Championship will take place October 27 & 28, 2018 on Lake Buchanan. See all the details here.
