FeelFree’s new Overdrive Pedal system is here and ready to be installed on almost all Lure model kayaks, but making sure you have everything you need to go hands free out on the water can get a bit confusing. We’re here to help you navigate the waters (pun) and go over what each part is and if you need it for your install.
While the Overdrive can be retrofitted onto most Lure models, you will still want to make sure your model is supported. Currently the Overdrive is slotted into the Sonar Pod location and can be added to the FeelFree Lure 11.5, 13.5 and Lure II Tandem. The Lure 10 is not supported at this time. We also have a preinstalled version of the Lure 11.5 and 13.5 on offer if you want to get in fresh. The forthcoming FeelFree Dorado, which is set to release sometime in 2018, will have everything set up from day one, so you won’t need to go any further than here if you plan on picking one up.
Now that we are sure your kayak can support the Overdrive, the next piece to look at is the rudder. This helps with tracking and control out on the water.
If you already have a rudder installed on your kayak, you can skip to the next step, but if you have a rudderless kayak you can get the new FeelFree Overdrive rudder kit. This new kit works with the Lure 11.5 and Lure 13.5, but not the Lure II Tandem. It doesn’t come with foot braces as you won’t be needing them. Regardless of which kit you start with, you’ll need to make sure you have a properly installed rudder to utilize the Overdrive.
Since your feet will be up on the pedals of the Overdrive console, you won’t be able to control your rudder with foot controls anymore.
Enter the Feelfree Hand Control Rudder Conversion Kit. This will convert your existing or new rudder set up to be controlled entirely by an extended handle you will install to the left of your seat. The extended design makes it easy to use no matter your seat position. This will be needed on all supported Lure models.
The Lure’s signature Gravity Seat wasn’t made to move too much, so to accommodate paddlers of all heights, the Seat Adjustment Kit was born. It bolts to the bottom of the gravity seat allowing it to slide forward or backward depending on your needs. This will be necessary on all compatible Lure models to optimize your positioning.
This is the first of the model-specific pieces. The stock cutting board console cover does not allow for the Overdrive console to install correctly as it blocks part of the area needed to properly slot the console in. This replacement cover simply opens up that area with a notch specifically sized to accommodate the Overdrive. Just switch the lids and your install can proceed as intended. If you have the Lure 13.5, this is the last piece you need.
Lure II Fit Kit
The Lure II similarly needs a fit kit to accommodate the Overdrive console, as well as a Lure II specific rudder kit. Neither of these are released as of this article, but should be coming in 2018. These will be needed to get your Lure II pedal ready.
