Kayak Angler’s Tournament Series (KATS) donates funds raised by anglers to help support the
Fort Hood, Texas chapter of Heroes on the Water and Explore Austin.

Austin, Texas (March 21, 2016) – The Kayak Angler’s Tournament Series (KATS) organization is pleased to announce a donation total of $4,720, which was raised through charity raffle sales, to help support two Texas based non-profits, the Fort Hood Chapter of Heroes on the Water and Explore Austin.

The KATS organization along with the support of its participants, sponsors and host, Austin Canoe and Kayak, focuses on giving back to the community. KATS donates funds raised by tournament participants and spectators through charity raffle sales and event registrations annually. Each year, the charities are selected by the KATS Governing Board, an organization designed to represent the kayak angling community. One such charity is Heroes on the Water, an organization whose mission is to help wounded warriors relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors.

“Programs like Heroes on the Water would struggle to meet our mission if it weren’t for the generous giving of vendors and individuals,” said Chris Payne, Chapter Treasurer, Ft Hood Heroes on the Water. “The donation from KATS Anglers & Austin Canoe and Kayak sets us up for a great 2016 as we strive to help our wounded veterans start the healing process on the water. We simply can’t thank them enough for their generosity as we serve our military community here in Central Texas.”

In addition to Heroes on the Water, KATS also made a contribution to Explore Austin. The non-profit organization focuses on changing the lives of underserved youth through leadership, mentoring, and adventure.

“This year marks the 100th anniversary of our National Parks and because of this donation, our kids at Explore Austin will be able to embrace the lands and waters of our nation in a much more intimate and inspiring way,” said Laura Nettleton, Director of Development, Explore Austin. “As an organization that seeks to change the lives of underserved youth through leadership, mentoring, and adventure, this donation will translate into 15 Saturdays of canoeing experiences and four weeks of summer adventure on the beautiful Buffalo River in Arkansas. We raise our paddle ups in thanks to all the KATS Anglers and Austin Canoe and Kayak.”

Total donations this year made as a result of the 2015 series was $7,220. A donation of $2,500 was donated to the Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, Texas over the summer of 2015. All proceeds were used to support regionally based charities. Raffle items are generously donated by the tournament series sponsors.
