Long time touring kayaker here. I needed a sit on, because my knees limit my ability to get in and out of a sit-in. This 14' boat (I'm used to an 18') allows for speed. A rudder is an absolute necessity, however. This boat is stable, has plenty of storage, is stable, and has all of the rails and adaptability for a great fishing platform (I don't fish). It is HEAVY. But for a 14' rotomold, it's the lightest. I'm very happy that I can keep kayaking until the knee replacements.

I have been paddling for years (40 or more) I am on my 2nd Tarpon 14. Have had 12 & still have older two hatch model 16. I can say for sure if you wish to paddle in moving u need to have knee straps & plan to be using body english. Reason people have so many boats is no one boat(like guns) is good for all things. 14 ft. Tarpon is a little faster than most sot types. I would trade it for 12 ft. If i could, better for my use. Butt Oi have the 16 ft. And a sea kayak also. If you only have one not bad chose.

Kayak is highly visable in the water and remarkably fast. Though a bit difficult to handle on rivers, it is unbeatable on lakes. Handles swells easily and is a lot of fun. Difficult for one person to carry very far, but easy for two.
