The Ocean Kayak Gaspachi Oval hatch is a 10 in. x 18 in. oval push-on hatch that can be installed on certain Ocean Kayak models. The Ocean Kayak Gaspachi Oval Hatch fits the Scrambler XT (bow), Malibu Two XL (center) and Zest Two EXP (stern, center). All of the necessary mounting hardware is provided with this kit as well as installation instructions. Constructed of super tough rubber, the Ocean Kayak Gaspachi Oval Hatch fits tight and prevents any water from entering the inside of the kayak.

Fairly easy to install. Need pliers to remove the spent mandrel from
your rivet gun. Lid seems secure and durable.
Works great. It allows us to pack a lot of gear and food inside the
kayak where it does not get wet. Installation was not difficult, but
you do need a rivet tool.
I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived at my door the on
Saturday morning after I ordered it Friday afternoon.
Product fit perfectly. I did not have my scroll saw handy so I drilled a tight series of holes and used a utility knife to connect them all. Afterwards used a file to smooth the edges and it worked great. Water tight access to more space
the hatch fit perfectly. my
only exception to this
product, was that the
instructions were some what
incomplete. for instance, the
instructions did not specify
the size of the rivet, which
lead to some trial an error in
purchasing a rivet gun.
additionally no instructions
were provided for the extra
strap. I've only just
installed this product not yet
tried on the water but the
seal does appear to be tight
and a good fit. I was able to
cut the hole with a saw on my
knife, instead of an electric
saw.
This hatch is actually better
than the original hatch that
came with the Sprinter Kayak.
It is defiently more sturdy.
It is twice as thick so it
should give me many years of
use. It fit perfectly.
Easy to install. Its a bit
tight at first but
eventually it does loosen up
just a bit. If you wet
the edges it does seal very
well. Very well built
and heavy duty.

which Gaspachi would fit my
older Kayak. And best of all

Fit well. Remember to save cut-outs for future kayak repairs. Strange rivets, left protruding spike when set with standard pop-rivet installer; had to cut off with Dremel. Touched up rivet heads with black marker. With this oval hatch installed, I can even fit the wheeled carrier into the hull(wheels off!). I put 5" screw cap hatches with ditty bags in the round hatch positions of the Malibu 2 XL. They hold cell phones, cameras and other stuff you don't want rattling around in the hull. 5" hatches can always be cut out and replaced by Gaspachis.
Awesome hatch! I had this one installed in my Malibu 2XL by the pros at ACK. It came in very handy when we needed to shelter some items from the spray as well as providing more storage for towels and such. It is strong enough to put a small ice chest on top also!
I had purchased 2 of the Gaspachi Oval Hatch for a Zest Two Exp and they are perfect. They very useful with the family day trips on the river with the storage of our dry bags. These hatches have given us the ability to store our belongs more securely. Thank you ACK for another great purchase.
The hatches I bought were quite suitable to the very old Ocean Kayak Sprinter I happen to own.
The team has been very kindly helpful to me, providing me with all information I required to make sure the purchase was accurate.
The shipping was quick although I'm living very far away from Texas. By the way, the handbook should not advise to let the hatches set on the kayak when not used : being made of rubber (?) those items happen to be slowly but strongly damaged by sea salt and sun (especially if you live in a tropical country, like I do); they should be rinced with fresh water after use and stored in a shadowed place - though the kayak itself fears nothing...

My product was shipped out fast and was the best price anywhere. Hatch is solid and strap should definitely keep it closed if I roll the kayak. Only downside is that it is quite heavy. Don't know why Ocean Kayak doesn't make it the same as their big hatches (like on the Scupper Pro), which would be lighter.
Best priced hatch I could find. Easy to install and works great. I like the extra strap across the hatch that doesn't seem to come on the factory installs. I appreciate the 'Ugly Box' shipping. Good use of our resources. Thanks!
Love the idea of the hatches, but an extremely disappointed that the holes were not professionally prepare. Was not pleased to have to cut into my new kayak to make it accommodative. My suggestion is to look for a kayak already geared with these items attached, or see if they can be installed before delivery. BUT....LOVE my Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL. Extremely pleased.

After shopping around on the internet for a good price I ordered a Gaspachi hatch from Austin Canoe and Kayak. Their price was better than others and delivery was on time. I will visit them again with any future needs for my Kayaks.

The main difference is that the cross lock hatch is held down with straps and the Gaspachi pops on without the need for straps to hold it down. Both are viable, but the Gaspachi system is newer.

The description for the Ocean Kayak oval hatch cover says it fits the Scrambler XT (bow), Malibu Two XL (center) and Zest Two EXP (stern, center). I have an Ocean Kayak Scrambler XL. I'm almost certain this cover would fit the Scrambler XL. Can you confirm that it fits the Scrambler XL before I order the cover?
