I use a Malone trailer and the bars are not far enough apart for the kayak to really sit perfectly in the cradle - either the front or back does bot not both. But when strapped down it does sit very securely and I feel much more confident driving long distances at high speeds with the cradle set.
The Hobie Cradle set is a good upgrade for my Trailex aluminum trailer. Make sure you order bolts and hardware from Hobie to mount your purchase. Great addition.
These craddles appear to be of good quality, easy to install. No mounting hardware included with the cradels, but the Trailex trailer for AIs and TIs come with mounting hardware for these cradles.
I wish they gave you more in the line of installation
instructions, but I understand they can be used in
quite a few different applications. They do work
great. The company is amazing. I have just
purchased my Kayak so I have had quite a few
purchase recently and all have been handled just
great!
Not worth the money! I purchased the AI
single version. It does not do a very good
job of holding the amas in a good position.
For the money you're better off buying the
wing type.
The cradle makes transporting
my Pro Angler so easy and
because it is molded to the
Pro Angler, I dont have to
worry about dents, scratches
or anything else if I was to
just us the rack bars.
These work great, but really
should for the price.
However, the instructions dont
provide any mounting advice
and there is no mounting
hardware. The instructions are
useless but the saddles work
well.
Wow I cannot say enough about
this invention. I have a Hobie
Pro Angler. When I first
bought my PA I had the Yakima
Hully Rollers and Saddles -
the rollers were too weak and
the saddles crushed quickly I
almost lost my boat on the
road. I then purchased the
Hobie Cradle set - these are
awesome, keeps my PA perfectly
safe. Easy to load and unload
and easy to install. Got a
Hobie? you need the Cradle
set.
I tried every other possible
way to carry my Pro Angler,
Hulley rollers and saddles -
the saddles crushed and
deformed under the weight of
the PA, the hulley rollers
crapped out too. I tried
carpeting too - I finally
broke down and ordered the
cradle set and this is the
best thing since sliced bread,
easy to load, carries my boat
secure and I have no worries
about the boat sliding around.
The cradles were easy to
install too
Bought the cradle set with the trailex aluminum trailer. Don't know how else you can transport the AI on this trailer without it. Formed well to fit the hulls and seems to provide good support. Carpet wasn't applied well and already came loose on one side but no big deal....
Steve not only help me to make sure I was ordering the correct Hobie Pro Angler Cradles but also made sure, they were in stock and would ship ASAP! I have not had better Customer Service anywhere. These Cradles ROCK! They fit the Pro Angler perfectly and make trailering the Pro Angler to and from the lakes easy.
Q:
I need to know the exact dimensions of the cradles for the Hobie AI. I only have 30" of support bar to bolt to. Is that enough room to use the cradles?
Q:
I have one trailer and two kayaks/boat. I use bunks for my boat and would like the cradle for my PA14. I would like to keep the bunks while using the cradle. What is the distance between each hole that is mounted to the trailer? Depending on that distance, I might pull off keeping the bunks on the days I want to add the cradle for the PA. Thanks.
A:
Yes these cradles should be able to be mounted on the Yakima Rack and Roll, however mounting hardware is not included. If you have questions on specifics of the mounting process, please send us an email at customer@austinkayak.com.
A:
You can use a regular T-bolt from a home depot or we have a malone device that is made for square bars http://www.austinkayak.com/products/19467/Malone-Unibar-Large-Cradle-Adapter-for-Hobie-Cradles-MPG5576.html?k=malone%20uni
A:
I do not think that this trailer is going to be compatible with the following. I feel that the cross bars are not going to provide the support necessary for the cradles. The other thing that concerns me is the fact that the cross bars are round rather than rectangular tubing which does not allow for much mounting surface for bolts.
Q:
I have the two 14ft Hobie Pro Angler and I'm looking in getting the double trailer ($1499.00) one.
Do I need the cradle set to make them sit properly on the trailer? Also do I need to get a pair or can you get them for a double trailer?
Thanks
A:
It is not necessary to have a cradle for your kayaks, but I would highly recommend it. The cradles will give your kayaks great stability and over time having the cradle will be well worth it.
Q:
I have a Hobie 2015 Adventure Island Tandem with a tandem cradle set on my trailer. The front cradle broke and it doesn't look like it can be repaired so I need to be replaced the front cradle only. Can I purchase the front cradle only or do I need to buy the set?
A:
These cradle sets are specifically made for the Island and Pro Angler series. Unfortunately the outback hull configuration will not work with this set.
A:
Actually these Hobie Cradle Sets are very specific to the model of boat. They are specifically made for the Adventure Island, Tandem Island, and Pro Angler series kayaks. Unfortunately they will not fit the older Hobie Mirage series.
A:
If you're putting this on a roof rack, you can use a U-bolt to connect them to the crossbar. So you place it over the crossbars themselves. If you're using a trailer, use bolts to place them over the axle and the main cross bar.
Q:
Hello, wonderful ACK peeps. I have the pro angler cradle set that I installed on a new trailer and forgot the specs. I believe that they need to be 170cm or about 5.5ft in length. Is this correct?
