Darby Extend-A-Truck Bed Extender is a great product and works great for loading my Yak on my Tahoe.

I am very happy with this extender. In conjunction my old Thule roof racks it allows me to safely haul my 14'9" Ocean Scupper Pro and get it on and off the truck with ease. It doesn't interfere with my storage box and compared to complete ladder racks you cannot beat the price, either. Bonus: I can still use the truck bed for hauling. Looks cool, too.

This piece does what is built for, which is carry loads. It rattles a lot in the bed extender mode depending on how much weight you have on it. More weight = less rattle. In the upright mode it can be fairly well silenced by using ratchet straps to tie it off. It is not pretty but it is functional. Don't expect a custom fit thing of beauty. Its a tool. ACK was easy to work with, good company.

An excellent product that I wish I had found much earlier. The package arrived in damaged condition but that was an illusion because of the shape of the contents. Everything was in perfect condition. This is definitely one of those "Why didn't I think of this" items.

Extend-a-truck works great. I use it on a 2015 Toyota Tacoma Quad Cab short bed. Makes transporting my 13'6" paddleboard a breeze. Additionally, using the roof rack produced by Darby allows me to carry my paddleboard at roof level and two kayaks in the bed. Easy to use, only wish the extender came with a foam pad.

Very substantial product and easy to assemble and disassemble

Darby Extend-A-Truck Bed Extender works perfectly! It was an inexpensive way (also easy on the back) to haul my 85# / 13' kayak. I slide the kayak in the bed (6 1/2') of the truck and the end of the kayak rests on the extender. I did add a soft pad to the cross beam to protect the kayak. This was a great purchase and I highly recommend this product.

I would have really liked this product if there had been a few more inches of adjustment in the height in both of the configurations. The bad part was the tubing is undersized, so the extender hangs down quite a bit. I'm going to need some 1/16 angle iron to take the sloppiness out.

This product works great. It is simple to install and easy to use. This extender fits two (2) Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160's perfectly in a standard length bed. There seemed to be some play at the connections when first installed, but is absolutely solid when yaks are strapped down. I have traveled several hundred miles with this having zero problems. I zip tied 2" diameter tubular foam to the top rail to reduce wear and movement and it works great. Product shipped quick and arrived as described.

Solid, does the job at a fair price. Just a reminder, if your laws on extended loads requires a flag during the day, it may require a light at night. A red bicycle light may do the trick on that for you.

Excellent product. I needed a simple way to transport my two kayaks with my SUV. the extend a truck is perfect. I didn't want to struggle with a rooftop solution and had no place (or the money) for a trailer. Now my wife and I can easily and affordably load our kayaks in 10 minutes with very little effort.

very functional product. I bought it when I got my new Predator, and it sure makes hauling it a breeze. I put foam rubber on the cross piece and the yak rides great. The height of the cross bar is adjustable, so it fits most any truck bed. Very pleased.

I bought this to haul a 14 foot Jackson Cuda kayak. I own a Nissan Titan short bed truck (67 inch bed length). The Darby extender works great for my truck. The fit in the tow hitch is a little loose and shakes some, but this is no big issue. The 14 foot kayak extends roughly two feet beyond the extender. With good secure winch type straps that secure to the extender and inside the bed of the truck the kayak stays in place and does not move. The extender has ample width to it. The only real drawback(which I haven't dealt with yet) may be the length of the extender. If going up steep inclines there may be the possibility of grounding out. My driveway has a decent incline to it and the bottom of the extender almost hits as I go up or down my driveway. So be careful and watchful of the terrain you travel over using this product. Otherwise it is a good, strong durable multi use extender. I would reccomend for the price. ACK customer service was excellent also. Fast shipping.

Just what I needed for double kiac. good construction and fits great.

This the perfect way to haul kayaks up to 15 feet in my 2014 Silverado with 6.5 foot bed. Safe and secure! The foam pad (extra) does protect the kayak but needs much improvement In my truck the hitch is 6"s longer than the bed giving me a total length of 12' from front of bed to the rack. My truck has a fiber glass bed lid and provides great protection for the boat

Purchased the Extend-A-Truck Bed Extender for our two kayaks. One measures ten feet and the other twelve. The Bed Extender allows both kayaks to sit side by side and a tie down strap over the extended section with two rubber pads holds the kayaks safely in place. The steel construction allows the Bed Extender to sit firmly in the tow hitch with very little movement. I would highly this product

I first saw a hitch extender several months ago. I bought mine about 4 weeks ago and used it less than a week later. My dtr. and I took our canoe and kayak to Ky. Lake and joined a few other folks for some overnight camping on the lake shore. We didn't have to 'rassle' with getting the boats up on top of the truck. The extender is very sturdy. It is very simple to set up and break down. It stores easily in the back of the truck. I will be using it again tomorrow when I head out for some kayaking on the Floyd's Fork Creek. This is a product definitely worth anyone's investment. I could very easily haul 3-4 boats off the back of my truck.

I haven't used it yet but it appears to be exactly as advertised. I bought two, one for myself and one for a famly member. Couldn't find a better price and it arrived a couple days later. Now I'm ready to go with long lumber, kayaks or ladders

This is a foolproof, bulletproof product. For $100 you can haul two kayaks around easily. I got two locking Master hitch pins so I dont have to remove it when out fishing. Great product. I use it for my new Hobie AI. I throw a piece of 4x8 ply wood on it with some carpet and pads and can haul my yak with only 2.5 of overhang. The first extender was beat to hell, UPS probably dragged it down the highway I took pics and sent to ACK and they sent another to me ASAP. Great customer service.

Great product. I used it in the low position with a 4X4 under the bow in my pick-up bed to get the gunwall-down canoe to lay flat. Was easy to load and unload, and very stable. Since we use ropes to secure the canoe to the rack, I wish the tie-offs/welded loops on the extender were sized a little bigger and beefier. Very compact to store the 2 pieces nest. Highly recommend this product.

me too this is what i should have purshased at first. i have a hobie mirage 13.5 and in my nissan titan i can't put a rack on top of the cab. so when i found the darby extend a truck, i said, "this is it". and i also bought the foam blocks.thank you ACK.

I have three Heritage Redfish 14' kayaks, one each for me, my wife and my son. I built a kayak rack out of PVC pipe and needed some support for the rear of the rack and the Extend-a-Bed truck bed extender works perfectly. The only 'complaint' I have is I have very little ground clearance and have to be careful at some of the launches I go to, but still, very much worth the money. This is what I should have purchased in the first place. We have 2 large kayaks, 89 lbs @ 15 ft each which are very hard to place on the rack above the truck bed/cab, the rack I originally purchased. I would put off fishing trips because of the hardship and hassle of loading and tying down the kayak. Now with the Darby extender I simply pick up the kayak to waist height and slide it in. Then just a couple of easily attached rachet straps and I'm done. Just as easy to unload. On top of that I can then take the extender off quickly and easily and put the 2 pieces in the truck cab for safe keeping. It goes on and off quickly and very easily.

ack customer service was helpful when I called, placing the order for me and choosing FedEx as the shipper in hopes of getting the truck bed extender in time for use that weekend...it came on Friday. The box was slightly damaged, but there were no missing parts so I was pleased. Would use this on line store again!

Good quality product that does what it says. You will need to add straps to the bumper or inside of bed to keep it from moving side to side but that should be expected. The only thing I wish it did was have a third position where it would be level with the top of the bed so I could use the bed and rest the kayak on my toolbox.

Works great on my small pickup. I use it for short transports to local waters. It takes me less than 10 minutes to insert the extender, load the kayak and tie it down. I have a OK Prowler T13 and made a wooden rest to keep the bow off the truck. I carry the kayak upside down and it is very stable. One thing to note though, it requires a receiver type of hitch on your vehicle. The hitch will cost about $50 and then there is install which may be more than the hitch. You are all set if you already have a hitch.

The extender is certainly built for stout! I wish that one could adjust the extension to accommodate loads of varying lengths. I had one foot cut off the extender to suit my hauling needs. I secured large pipe insulation tubing with Velcro strapping to prevent marring of cargo. It would be great if there were strap mounts or loops welded on the sides. When I first opened the box, I was surprised to see the paint was chipping in several areas. I will sand it and repaint it. The extender rattles when en route and I need to find a way to pad the juncture point. It is a good value for a reasonable price and the delivery time was great. Go USA! Works great as advertised. Get 2 of the foam pads that fit their square tubing if you are carrying a kayak. One for the extender and one for your pickup bed. Attach with a large tywrap by poking holes through the foam. Seems they are only available from Darby.

this thing is a monster...well built, sturdy...the foam block i purchased to go on it is a tough fit because the cross bar is sooooo sturdy, thick...nice job to the manufacturer, and it's made in THEE USA.

I have not tried the extender in the upright position yet (no roof rack on the cab of my truck) but as an extender for the bed in the low position it worked perfectly. It is sturdy enough to stand on when climbing up onto the tailgate and it has adequate tie downs. It comes with two hitch pins to attach the two halves together and attach it to the hitch on the truck.

The Darby Extend a Truck totally rocks. I am transporting a Mad River Adventure 14 and a Perception 15.5 Avatar and it works perfectly for in town trips and longer using highways and interstates. I covered the Darby with foam pipe covering and tie wrapped it to secure it. Protects boats nicely and provides a little grip. I travel with the kayak deck up...and with the canoe gunwales down. Remember to only strap the boats lightly to the Darby...otherwise risk damage to hull! Entirely worth the money...and with no tax and free shipping, no better price than ACK. Thanks ACK!

exactly what I needed for my 13' kayak. T he quality is 1st class,much sturdier than expected. delivery was super fast as well.

I was playing around with the idea of making a rack to fit in the back of our Frontier short bed to work with the factory roof rack. After I saw the Darby rack I scrapped that idea--pronto! It was ready to go right out of the box and worked perfectly on our truck with a Malibu 2XL strapped to it. I added some padding to the T-Bar, some reflective tape, and reflectors--and away we went. Once again, great price and great service from ACK.

EXCELLENT product - should have got this years ago! Perfect fit on my Nissan Frontier. I have carried both my kayaks (13.5 ft and 16 ft) at the same time in both horizontal and vertical (with foam blocks on the roof) positions with no problems. TIP: I got some black foam pipe insulation from Home Depot and wrapped it around the top surface of the crossbar (wound some rope around it to hold it in place) to protect the boats - costs about 5 bucks and works great!

I actually had this before, works so good someone stole my last one. Works great, many uses. I use it for lumber and canoe or kayak transport. Easy to use, just remember to lock it inside the truck.

Best price I found online. I use it on my short bed Tacoma with two 2x12s bolted onto it from inside the truck bed. That lets me ride my mower up ramps and sit on the lumber, since the wheel well "bumps" are in the way of getting the mower all the way forward in the bed. So the back wheels of the mower rest on the lumber, which is supported by the extend-a-truck. Way cheaper than buying a utility trailer to haul the mower around on jobs.

I used it for the first time this weekend to pickup 6 sheet of 1/2 drywall on a 2005 Ford Escape and it worked great. Numerous people stopped as I was loading and ask where I got it Austin Kayak was great, best price I found ($100 less than one place) and it was delivered free in 3 days.

First let me say that I got great service from ACK, timely shipping and best price. I gave a rating of four stars because I'm not totally satisfied with the quality. (1) Paint was flaking at weld site and (2) for advertising that it needs to be held with straps, there are no mounts for connecting those straps. It just so happened that I needed to raise the cross member up one hole to match the height of my roof rack and so I used the now open holes to attach the hooks from my straps. Although this worked well, I would not have been able to do this if I needed the lowest position. Having said all that, I padded the cross bar and my roof rack and use this to carry my 19 foot long hang glider and it works great. When I want to take it down but have it available it lays flat in my short (5 foot) pickup bed.

It does what it says it will do. It needs support straps to keep it from rocking side to side. Other thnn that it's great.

This is definitely worth the price paid. I will take my 17 ft. kayak out much more often now that I can load and unload the boat at waist level. Quality material and finish. I will need to get some kind of wedge to keep the horizontal position level.

I have a short bed full sized Silverado Chevy truck and I can move both of my 160T Loon Old Town Kayaks with ease , thanks to the Extend-A-Truck. It's simple,and it works !

The extend-a-truck is pretty slick. I bought it so that I could easily transport my canoe to and from the lake and it has worked great. There are two reasons I didn't give it a 5-star rating: 1) When I was attempting to use it as an upper rack it looked like it may not clear the sport racks on the cap of my truck (Chevy Silverado 1500). It looks like it may need one more hole which I will probably just drill myself if there is room for another and if I really need to use it in that configuration. 2) I had to wrap carpet around the "T" member in order to avoid damaging my canoe while driving. Not a big deal at all, but it would have been nice to include some simple padding. Aside from that, the product is great and AC&K has the best price on the web.

Extend A Truck works great. It is just the right length and is built tough. I have used mine to transport a 14' kayak and 16' lumber, and it worked great.

I use the Extend-A-Truck to carry 2 13' Ocean Kayak Prowlers on a small pickup truck. I have used both vertical and horizontal positions, and both work very well. You must tighten it down with straps because it is a little wobbly without, but they tell you that in the instructions. I would definitely recommend. Also, the price at Austin Kayak is the best I have found.

I pull a 5th wheel camper and needed some way to support my canoe that hangs over the front of my truck, this seems to work good. Its a little sloppy but I think I have a fix for that, (J-Pin) is on order.
