Bruce claw anchor 1 kg
What a great buy! This little beast will last generations. It holds my threasher or tarpon in rock, mud, or sand, no matter the current. It is easy to wash and to store. It doesn't clang about, just sits quietly until needed. I could not ask for a better holding devise. Put a shackle on the back & secure the line at the rear. A small zip-tie goes in the front hole and will give way if hung up. Being able to pull this in reverse means she'll never get stuck. Get One !
Very good for mud or sand bottom. Extremely reliable, light weight and easy to use. I think it is much superior to the folding anchors. Using chain links, as noted elsewhere is a good idea but not needed in shallow and slow moving water. I use the ties used in closing bags of bread to hold the anchor line/chain to the upper end of the anchor and firmly secure the line/chain to the lower end of the anchor. This will let you pull the anchor free if it become stuck somehow.
I never thought I should need an anchor to the kayak. Thanks God, a friend of mine expert in the fishing kayak, recommended me to use this specific anchor for a kayak. I followed his instructions and I bought it and installed it in my kayak. It works perfectly. Then I knew that if I didn't use this anchor, I should be in the middle of the ocean. I recommend this product for your safety.
Slightly awkward to store on board due to shape but is very light weight and much more reliable than the folding Grapnel type anchors. Has worked well for me on local sandy /soft mud bottom in strong tidal currents without any added weight, but on different bottom (say a bit "harder" mud), or in deeper water, perhaps a length chain will be needed.
I added 2' of chain with a shackle connection and use a plastic zip tie for releasing anchor when snagged. I use 75' of rope that I wrap around a extension cord holder I bought at the dollar store. I have an anchor float attach and a harmony quick release cam cleat. I have installed an anchor trolley on my Hobie pro angler 14'. This anchor holds in soft bottoms no problem. I am learning to use anchor trolley to position myself so I can cast with the wind. This anchor fits perfect in my right rear rod holder. Paddle clip on left side prevents me from using that rod holder but I don't mind the sacrifice for using paddle clip. As I have upgraded my rod holders using the scotty rail mounts and gear head extensions (awesome).
I haven't used it yet, but I like the weight of it, and the grabbing power it seems to have. Can't wait to try it. Fits nicely in the build a crate rod holder from ACK.
If you want to stay in one place, purchase a Bruce Claw anchor from AC&K, reason, it will Stick you exactly where you place the anchor! and yes, and if it's a 4.2lb Bruce claw, good luck trying to pull it out of a solid stick, aint' happening, Bruce claw is the finest design to stay put, period.
be careful using this anchor in moving water with large rocks on the bottom. Mine got wedged between rocks, it was very hard and a little dangerous to retrieve it
priced right, quick delivery, rig to at least 50' of small line with a small shackle and wire ties and you are as good as anchored in sand or mud. Does not hold well in shell or rocks.
Have only used in sand and mud, but it holds extremely in those condtions. It is a bit bulkier but somewhat lighter and, for me, way more reliable than the standard folding anchor.
Holds pretty well for being so small and light. I have had some issues with it holding when there's some chop, but I think it wouldn't have been a problem if I had been using a trolley and had the anchor going off the stern.
Best Kayak anchor for general use great grabbing power for its weight.
I paddle a Cobra FND; and fish in many creeks that have extra strong tides and current. The compact fold out anchors were simply not doing the job of keeping me anchored down in one spot, so I'm able stake out the back and keep myself squared up to the oyster beds that I want to cast in front of. After talking to Clark, a local kayak fishing friend here in Jax, he said the Bruce style claw anchors are the best style and design which stick and stay the minute they hit the bottom of the creek, I took my 2 Bruce claw anchors that I ordered from Laura, with help from Kyle; as the larger Bruce anchor had to be a special order, it took quite awhile, but it was well worth the weight. I fished last Monday night, under a full moon, in Simpsons south Creek, and around 3:30am, at dead low tide, with the very first sign of the current and the first of the incoming tide off of the ocean, Bingo, I head a huge amount of splashing in the water behind me in the grass, stood up, took out my bino's flashed my MagLite; sure enough, the most beautiful sight a kayak fishing person could hope for, a huge school of redfish tailing in the grass, feeding off the exposed oyster bed, which supplies the red's with clams and oyster, there favoirte thing to feed on. I had the most crazy and non stop 45 minutes of casting and getting slammed with over sized red's. My largest measured bull red came in at just over 45", total caught in less then 1 hour; 7, ended up keeping the limit of 2 legal slot size (18"-27"), whith a 26" & a 24" reds, fished the bottom for 30 minutes with large mud minnows, landed 2 nice sized black drums, (15"-20"; one keeper over 20") one drum was 20" and the big boy was 25". trolled soft plastics on the long 7 mile paddle back to the truck, snagged a big gator speckled trout measuring 22". The Bruce style claw anchors truly are the best anchor allowing you to stay in One Spot, for good, have not been pulled off a spot since I switched to the Bruce style anchor. ACK and there staff are why I continue to purchase my kayak gear from them, along witih excellent quality, they always have the best price point for the items that I want to purchase.
This is a great anchor for sand and mud but,a few times it has gotten hooked on a rocks an is sometimes every hard to get it off. I have almost rolled my kayak getting it off
This has been a great anchor. I have used it in the river and I have used it in the surf. In the surf I had it attached to my tarpon 120 and a Hobie 14 ft tandem it held both of us on my anchor trolley. It broke the anchor trolley line and was still holding in the sand IN SURF. the only reason I will not give it a five star, the size is a bit big. All in all I would buy again if I ever lose this one.
This anchor is extremely strong. Last time I was on my kayak fishing in the ocean in a strong current and even the large boats could not stay in one place. I was there for about two hours and you could see how the other boats were being pulled by the current while I stayed in the same place.
Wonderful anchor. Used mine successfully in lakes and ponds with mud, clay, gravel, or even rocky bottoms. Recently took it on a canoe trip to Ontario. Not a good idea. Once the claw grabs onto a down tree on the bottom you either cut the rope or go swimming. I cut the rope; but I will be purchasing another claw anchor.
Works great on the flat and offshore fishing and this product is very compact easy to carry
Great product! Holds my Kayak in place with no problem.
This anchor is a most to have, totally works for those sandy bottom lakes..
This anchor works great. Holds well and does not slip under heavy winds.
the best ! i have two.holds from galveston to the sands and grass of south padre.very light & small.
This anchor works! I fish a lake that is part muddy bottom, and part sand, holds great in both. Holds even in strong current. Look up how to rig with zip ties, itll save you from swimming.
I had a kayak anchor, worthless. I took an inexpensive chance on this one, works great in hard currents. Im very grateful. You need this one.
Bruce-Style claw anchor Works great in the soft sandy bottoms here in SW Florida. Perfect for a Kayak,Canoe,or small boat. Dealing with ACK was excellent as always, prompt delivery.
works great....sets fast on mud and releases very well.
used in Houston ship channel sand bottom and crazy currents and this is the only anchor that holds!
Perfect for inshore fishing South Florida on mud/sand bottoms. Used over a year now, rigged with breakaway on top hole in case it gets stuck. Saved itself twice this way.
light weight, small, worked great on my 14ft kayak,i fish in and around SAN LUIS PASS.Srong currents and hard sand bottom.I cut the neck down and drilled a new hole.Tried them all this is the best anchor out now.
I use it to anchor in sand. I've used it in all types of current. Its a little bulky to store on the yak but...Works great!
a basic but very effective anchor. I bought two to secure front and rear of my fishing kayak and have to say that I am extremely happy with the performance. Heavy enough to keep you in place but light enough to pull easily and reset if needed.
i'm a novice(so i only gave it a 4) - used 1 day - dropped it 3 X- held all 3 X on a windy day.
I really like this anchor, just throw it off the kayak and it does all the work! Strong enough to hold my kayak and my friend's in pretty strong current.
Small, relatively light weight, and very effective. The only complaint I would have is the hole in the bottom of the anchor is small to get heavy duty rope through. I tied my anchor line to the bottom and zip tied it to the top hole in case of a snag I can break the zip tie and try a different angle.
i like this anchor to use when i'm in areas with large rocks, where i have lost folding anchors.
Sets first time, every time. This works great on sandy bottoms and is lighter than my other anchors. I haven't had a chance to try it on a muddy bottom.
Terrific anchor for the flats on the Indian River, FL. Holds well even in high wind, and best of all - easy to clean off debris after hoisting! I keep mine in the right rear rod holder also.
This is the only anchor that will keep me in one spot on these sandy Texas lake bottoms.
The Bruce-Style Claw Anchor works great! perfect for sand and mud
This is the best sand anchor I ever used PREFECT!
Great anchor for a kayak. I sometimes just stick it inside one of the rod holders.
This Bruce-Style Claw Anchor is perfect for the marsh ans muddy bottoms of the south Louisiana waterways I fish in. I received a recommendation from another Kayak fisherman so I bought one for both, my son and myself.
This anchor is great! It grabs every time without any problem and keeps me anchored. I have the other fold out 4 pronged type on my other kayak; I will be replacing it with one of these.
Its a mud and sand anchor, what else is there to say. Rigged mine with a 3 ft small link chain attached to bottom hole on anchor, then the chain attached to top hole with small zip tie. Anchor line attaches to end of chain. This way if I get hung up a hard yank will break zip tie and release anchor to come up butt first. Good dollar value.
Works great. Have not tested it in high wind yet.
I have used anchors for over 30 years to hold everything including my Wheelchair..and These Little Claws Are the PERFECT anchor..It worked so well I decided to give one to my paddling Friends for Christmas..Also got one for my sailing dinghy, when I was in Cedar Key I needed an anchor all I had was the folding little type it worked OK but The Bruce Style Works in all kinds of bottoms, and its "Cute" says my grandkids. Note it can also be pitched up on the bank to pull a person who has problems walking in or for just taking a nap after a long paddle the first time I used it was when the wind came from 2 mph to over 30 mph. Glad I had it.
I've only used it on sandy bottoms and it works great!
Only had opportunity to use once, but it was in high winds and sandy bottom. held the kayak and me stable.
I purchased this anchor on a recommendation from a kayaking buddy and couldn't be more pleased. I was having difficulty getting a good hold in high winds with the small fold-out type anchors normally used in kayaks, and this anchor definitely cured the problem. It works great in muddy or silty bottoms, is lightweight and stores easily. - Good Fishin! - Steve Stinson
