2020 Kayaking Preview

For Hobie, ICAST was a chance to show off its brand-new Mirage Pro Angler 360 Series. Featuring a 360-degree rotating pedal drive, the PA 360 Series offers infinite maneuverability options. Use the handle above the left-side rudder control to change your direction down to a single degree on the compass; even in shallows the PA 360 Series retains a full 360-degree maneuverability. The boat’s 360 Drive mast link system allows the turbo fins to kick-up when coming into contact with rocks, logs and other obstacles, automatically redeploying when it’s been cleared. If you’re looking for a bit more flair too, get your Mirage Pro Angler 360 in the exclusive Arctic Blue Camo color that’s new for 2020.

Wilderness Systems

There’s plenty to highlight when talking about Wilderness System’s 2020 lineup of fishing kayaks. First off, two new boats are being added to their lineup: The Patrol 120 and Recon 120. Both boats are budget-conscious options, with the Patrol 120 the cheapest dedicated fishing boat in the lineup and the Recon 120 the least expensive pedal kayak in the bunch. The Patrol 120 is an incredibly stable, yet well-paddling, choice with a new paddling fishing platform and EVA deck pad included. The Recon 120 offers similar performance as the Patrol but with added pedals for hands-free traveling. It also has an updated Helix Drive that is easier to stow, pre-plumbed steering on either side and an easily-adjustable seat position. Last but not least, Wilderness Systems’ beloved Tarpon boats are getting a revamp, offering a 105 size instead of a 100. The 2020 Tarpons have more volume above the waterline for extra stability and an updated seat material that helps keep you cooler.

Bonafide Kayaks

If you’re looking to stand out on the water, then you’re going to want to take a long look at Bonafide Kayaks’ new 2020 limited edition colorways on their SS127 and SS107 fishing kayaks. With four unique designs (Bk-25, Black Widow, Tiki and Fusion) that feature color-coordinated accents and limited-edition logos, these boats will not only perform swimmingly but also will make a statement. These special colorways are only $100 more than the regular SS127 and SS107 models, but you’ll have to act fast if you want them; only 800 total limited-edition boats are being made, which will be made available in September 2019 and January 2020. The improvements don’t stop solely with the aesthetics either, as the SS127 and SS107 offer more EVA foam placements, including on the sonar pod and front hatch.

Two Feelfree fishing kayak favorites are getting redesigns for the 2020 season. The Lure 10 and Moken 12 are back and better than ever, featuring improvements meant to make your kayak fishing experiences more seamless. The 2020 Feelfree Lure 10 comes with an added sonar pod so you can install a fish finder and transducer without ever having to drill into your kayak; it’s also completely removable, so you can stow it away during transport. The Lure 10 also comes rudder ready and with a new front hatch design, as well. Building on the old Moken 12, the 2020 version features a stadium style seat that is comfortable, adjustable and impressively stable, along with a new hull design.

Brand new for 2020 is the Perception Outlaw 11.5, a price-point fishing kayak that punches above its weight. For a mere $699, the Outlaw offers the styling and features of boats far higher in price. The Outlaw 11.5 features a wide-open deck and fold-away seat that can be seamlessly replaced by a Yeti 35 if you so choose. It also has innovative dual rear-facing rod holders that can hold a rod at trolling angle, one on either side of the seat. Add that to the included ball mounts and fish finder accommodations and you’ve got one well-equipped boat. A host of dedicated accessories will also be available at the boat’s launch in November.

Old Town

Old Town’s big ICAST highlight was its revamped 2020 Predator PDL fishing kayak. Complete with a new composite rudder that offers hands-free, fine-tuned control and maneuverability, the new Predator PDL helps you get to, and stay at, your spot quickly and effortlessly. A new EVA deck pad provides a comfortable and stable standing platform, and an updated hatch design features a large bow hatch with a quick seal cover and a rectangular dry hatch on the PDL console. 2020 also brings new accessory track cutouts in the front and rear mounting plates. To top things off, Old Town also rolled out an updated line of PFDs.
