I got the backbone after reading other reviews saying it improved the handling of the kayak. It certainly does. You have to be sure to get it centered though (they suggest using an ink-marker pen to mark the centre-line on the kayak floor). The first time I installed it I didn't get it quite right and felt the boat veering, but when I used it after that I got it centered and the tracking was great. Makes the kayak feel really solid, too, and there's no sense that you're sitting on it. The only thing to note in using it is that it adds weight to the overall kayak during transit.

Unfortunately I have yet to enjoy my new AE kayak along with the backbone. However, I did very much appreciate the courtesy and service I received from ACK.

Tried both with and without the backbone and I would say there is a noticeable difference. I would highly recommend this backbone.

Get the best tracking with a backbone. Increase paddling efficiency. Increase glide. You won't regret the purchase.
