Something Unexpected Occurred...
The Smarttrack rudder kit is perfect for your taller kayakers because the toe pegs are fixed in place far enough to allow for maximum room.

Thanks for replacing the broken foot pedal control, you guys are great!
Outstanding product and great customer service!
Works very good. I got it for later model Wildy Tsunami. The bolt
centers on this model is 14 5/8 so one hole needed slight modding.
The OEM rubber washers are bigger than what comes in the kit.
Covers the modded hole easily. I have long legs so I moved the seat
back and with OEM braces use the longest 3 positions depending
on how I feel most of the time in the center. SmartTrack mounted
in the stock holes at the longest position is a little less than the
second OEM position. Also need to order the mid pin rudder bracket
extra. The bracket loosen on me after around 20 miles so I used
some blue loctite on the bolts. Nice feature you can readjust the
cables easy after the the brake in after a few times out
I put this on my Hurricane Sojourn 135. The boat was already set up for this exact rudder and installation was very simple for me, although I do similar work like this daily. The rudder adds so much control to the kayak. There is no more constant correction to get where you want to be. The foot pedals are an engineering work of art. You can adjust the placement of the pedals and never loose tension of the cables. The pedals are comfortable and easy to use. Hurricane kayaks has a youtube video showing how to install the rudder on one of their boats. It's very informative and I'm sure will help anyone who is planning to put this rudder on whatever kayak they own ad well. The pop up feature on the rudder is very easy to use and keeps the rudder safe even if you forget to pull it up in shallow waters. I had to purchase the cable cover and the rudder bracket separately for my application. Now if you really want to have fun add an umbrella to your boat and get out there in some wind, the rudder makes kayak sailing a breeze (yeah I just said that). I don't think you'll find a better system than this
I purchased this kit for our WS Pamlico 145 tandem, which gets a
bit squirrelly in our mostly tide-current swept local waters. ACK
shipped fast and the rpice was very cometitive. I was attracted by
the materials used in construction as well as the NACA airfoil section
and shape of the rudder blade. It's a very efficient design and the
tandem size offers a balanced design to minimize drag and create
some lift. I've been a sailor for more than 40 years, doing all my
own maintenance, so while this was not a super-easy install, it
wasn't really very difficult for me, especially as the kayak was set up
for the mid-pin tail mount already. Only a few holes had to be
drilled, but having installed through-hulls in a fibreglass sailboat,
drilling in polyethylene was no biggie. I would just stress: measure
at least twice and mark and use a centerpunch to start the drill bit,
before drilling. Fibreglass can be patched and repaired, but not so
much, poly. I needed to purchase both the tubing kit and the stern
bracket. The bracket is not included despite the listing copy
indicating all mounting hardweare is included. I was especially
pleased witht he footblock, toe-activated rudder pedals' design and
the ingenious, cool wedgies thingies for attaching the rudder cables
to the rudder quadrant control arms. I'm looking forward to our first
ruddered launch, very soon!
This was my second rudder kit, first was on a Dirigo 160T and this was for a Pelican 120.
Both kits were easy to install, instructions were not that helpful but no problems figuring it out and they are great in the windy days.
Purchased for a Wilderness Systems Sealution XL.
Excellent fit. Much better design than stock rudder. Kick up feature (one rope/balanced design) is much appreciated.
I haven't had time to install this yet on my cedar strip kayak, but the quality of construction is very clear right out of the box. The instructions are easy to understand and I am looking forward to
getting this high-tech system installed soon.
