The vest works well with a 17
seat back, not sure how the
fit would be with the newer 20
seat backs. The pockets and
zipper pull tabs are a nice
addition, I attached several
Zlite s clips and they are now
tool attachments. The size
charts are true to statement.
Some of the buckles do hit
during paddling on the Kayak
seat, so still trying to find
a fix for that. A couple of
floating adventures and the
vest worked well. Overall
this is a great fishing/PDF.

It feels more like a fishing
vest, easy to adjust the fit,
very low profile. I fly fish
with a two-handed spey rod and
in the 4 times Ive used it so
far, Ive found myself wearing
the entire day. The front
pockets and accessorie clips
are perfect for storing my fly
boxes, leader, tools, split
shot, etc. Awesome product!

wat of the kayak seat and
provides plenty of room for

Not wearing your PFD in a yak,
canoe or small power boat can
be very deadly as shown by the
stats. So the more comfortable
you are in a PFD, the more you
will wear it. My Stohlquist
Fisherman Mango PFD is
comfortable in our Hobie
Oasis, on my Freedom Hawk 12
or my new Freedom Hawk
Pathfinder, which is the same
Hi Vis yellow color. You need
to be seen while on the water.
When you buy one, have someone
at the store or home help you
adjust the PFD to fit you.
Fitting and sizing adjustments
work better with a helper.
I Spey/Fly Cast with the
Stohlquist, cast spinning and
casting rods and this PFD is
comfortable. So there is no
perceived need to take it off
while casting and fishing. I
wear it on non fishing trips.
It is even comfortable with
the Freedom Hawk Elite rigid
high back seat. I use the
pockets usually to store non
fishing items from snacks to
ER gear equipment. This marks
my third season of using my
Stohlquist, and it still looks
good and feels comfortable.

I've had this pfd for about 6
months now and love it.I went
through 3 other pfds before
this one, and wish I would
have purchased this from the
beginning. It's light weight,
extremely cool in the Texas
heat,plenty of storage,and
very comfortable. I spend an
average of 7 hours on the
water when I go fishing, and
wear it all day long even in 1
foot or less of water. Most of
the time I forget I even have
it on. A couple times I had
loaded up my kayak and
realized I hadn't taken it off
yet. The front pockets do not
hinder you re-entering your
kayak.The high back works
great with mt Tarpon 160.

I don't really like it. I have 2. One mango and one cactus. Small size. Fits me as it should. (I'm 5.8' and 150 lbs)I must confess that I did not used any other PFD before this one and after it. I'm still using it because I do not want to spend another $100 for a new one. When is hot outside I just take it off (I'm a good swimmer).
It is a little bulky. It was dropped in water a little and it remained stained on the side that was in water. I will try to submerge it entirely and see if the stains will go away.
The front pockets may be in your way when reentering the kayak from water. The zipper on both colors (mango and cactus) is located on the other side like for women. Also the zipper lock is too close to the foam in front of you and it does not bent and it is hard to close it. I wish that it had at least 2 more small pockets on the outside.
The materials look high quality. I did not tried it in water, but I'm sure that it will work. I like everything that it has. But I wish it was less bulky in front.

your flashlight, knife, or
whatever. I don't fish but if
I did this would be choice I'd
imagine. I was able to hold my
cell phone, smokables, and
more dry inside the over sized
pockets even when being
splashed going through waves.
It is the only pfd I ever used
so nothing to compare it to.
Very happy with the purchase
and price. Quality. Sizing
chart was perfect, Fits snug
but you wouldn't want anything
else in a pfd.

First thing I did with my new Stohlquist Fisherman
High Back life vest was to try it in my pool.
Great product for a very good price with free
shipping that arrived quickly. The high back works
well in my phoenix 140. The jacket is well made
and the pockets really work well and are really
handy. I'm in SW Florida and the jacket is much
cooler than any jacket I had. It still gets hot
during mid day.

While ordered the kayak package I discussed the life vest size with customer service and they suggested if in doubt about which size to order to purchase the adjustable one, which I did. Good decision. I got it snugged up to my size and no problem working the fly rod while wearing vest. Vest has great features and color scheme.

Great vest. Very comfortable. Lots of places to attach gear.
Well constructed.
It came down to the Stohlquist Fisherman and the Patagonia
Highwater PFD, and I ended up keeping the Patagonia. It was
just more comfortable for my frame: 6", 176 lbs.
Biggest complaint is that the rougher seam material wraps
under the bottom of the vest and presents a ridge to the
wearer's abdomen. In a sitting position I could imagine this
being uncomfortable after a day of paddling.

Don't buy this vest if you have a Jackson Kayak
Coosa Elite fishing boat (sit on top style). The
seat back is too high and you sit against the
vest, with your lower back being unsupported and
not touching the seat. The fold down pockets don't
fold level but that shouldn't be a big deal. Fit
and finish is good, as well as overall quality.
Other than the high back that won't work with
every type of sit on top yak, its OK.

Really great bit of kit. It felt like I was wearing a shirt while paddling. Not even when I was steering the yak through corpses of drowned trees up a very tight inlet did I feel as if I was wearing a pfd: and that includes back paddling. Very cool to wear in the temperature sense, the mesh really helps there: it's our late spring. I'd have no hesitation buying another stohlquist fisherman, and would highly recommend it to others. It took me a while to get it adjusted to the right fit but I have that accomplished now. The front pockets do not fold down as shown but that isn't a big deal for me. The vest does allow for freedom of movement and is fairly comfortable. I just wish someone would make a life vest with significantly less bulk. All in all I would recommend this vest.

This PFD is well made and has many straps for adjustment. The only problem I have is the front pockets protrude and are a little cumbersome in a tight kayak but some people will find them quite useful.

Fast, easy delivery to Australia. Got the mango for visibility and have been very happy all round. Holds much of my gear with ease and is quite comfy. I am a bigger bloke and I was initially worried about the bulk on the front but have not had any problems. Good buy from a reliable dealer.

I have been extremely satisfied with this PFD. It is an excellent choice for the minimalist kayak fisherman. It has plenty of storage room for a couple of fly boxes plus all the necessary
tools. The "Plus" universal size is great for folks who fish in all kinds of weather and may need to throw on a few layers under the vest. It adjusts easily to all sizes, which is great if you're letting someone borrow it! I have been on about 7-8 float trips with this vest and it is by far my favorite.

The order came on time. It was the model vest that I wanted. However I ordered the Cactus green which from the pictures I understood it to be the lighter green. I got the darker green one, but the label said cactus. From the pictures I initially saw the darker green was moss green. but other than that it was a great buy.

Shipping could not have been better! Product was shipped within 2 hours of ordering. Before this vest, I was using an old sailing vest which was too snug and uncomfortable. This vest is great! The high back is perfect for kayaking and the shoulder straps are non-restrictive for fishing. Pockets are great, but only small pliers fit in the elastic restraint. I still put my pliers in there, however, they are not within the restraint. Overall, a great product that I would recommend.

Great vest for SOT kayaks. Lots of places to attach things to. Drawbridge pockets are nice. The elastic straps inside the pockets are perfect for holding pliers, and my Spyderco folding knife. Very high quality fabric and manufacture. Very comfortable to wear once adjusted properly.

I love this PFD! It's extremely comfortable, has lots of pockets and elastic straps to hold things, and the high-back is perfect for those tall seats. It doesn't rise up and offers all the freedom to move that you need. I have a sit-on-top Ocean Kayak, and the only thing to keep in mind is that the front pockets can get in the way when re-entering the yak in deep water. Make sure you practice your technique with a friend there to help.

I originally purchased another PFD which is no longer listed for purchase. It too was a fishing model. It wound up being more like a chest vest as opposed to a waist length vest. I returned it for the High Back version at the suggestion of ACK. They were dead on the money, it fits perfectly! Thanks ACK!

This is one terrific PFD. It's pockets help keep all of my gear close at hand, and it is extremely comfortable. I really like the high back, as it does not interfere with my kayak seat. I find myself wearing it more than I have worn my previous PFD's. Excellent product!

Extremely well made and comfortable in the yak with the flotation resting high on my back and above the seat. I rarely use a flotation device when stream wading but should in areas where trouble could be one step away. This vest has enough room for everything if you scale back a bit with the huge advantage that in the yak or wading, a misstep will not prove disastrous.
