This mat is as advertised. Sand goes right through. It was great to walk on after coming up from the ocean. Bring a blanket for sunning and sitting as it is a little rough. Highly recommend.

Review:
The mat does a great job with fine sand, wet sand and sand with a lot of small shells does not pass through. Make sure you tack it down or the two layers of the mat slide across each other and create a slick surface to walk on. Having said that, it was nice having a surface to sit/lay on that wasn't covered in sand. It stays surprisingly cool even in direct sunlight.
