Kris in Steamboat Springs
Tandem Island Alternative. I bought this cover to protect our 2017
Tandem Island from the Colorado sun and snow while it's on the
trailer. Materials and workmanship are excellent, with lots of
tightening and tie-down hoops built in. This cover *almost* fits the
TI perfectly, except for the rear. The rear of the cover can't go
around the rudder, leaving the stern/gudgeon and the aft-most 12"
of the amas exposed. The solution is to find the rear-most transom
piece of the cover and, with a sharp knife, cut a slit down the
middle of the tall skinny rear-most transom piece vertically from
the top of that piece through the bottom seam. I cut the bag off,
too. This allows the cover to surround and hug the stern/gudgeon
and fasten under the boat, leaving enough drawstring to capture
the aft points of the amas. That way, it fits the TI "like a glove".
The Hobie TI cover probably fits perfectly out of the box but costs
$170 more. The mods only took a few minutes, and I'm gonna
save that $170 to take my wife out for a night on the town (or
save for a spinnaker)!
Fit our hobie adventure inland tandem well
The product is very well made. But, it is advertised incorrectly.
Ads say it can used as a upside down or upright cover. It is
only made as an upside down cover. The only way it can used
when it is right side up is if a frame is used over the top of the
canoe. Otherwise, the inside turns into the lake that you want
to be on. All the straps, pull stings or lace ups won't make it
tight enough to prevent pooling. You can't use the front
mooring eye to trailer it. There is no hole for it, when it is right
side up. The manufacturer was very helpful with suggestions to
make the frame. There suggest for using a grommet to make a
hole is so, so. I won't suggest this product to anyone wanting
to trailer a large canoe upright, like my 18 footer.
Perfect fit for Hobie Tandem
Island, excellent quality and best
Appending to my review:
purchased for Hobie Tandem
Fits well even with the mast
bungeed to the boat. Snugs-
up well with the straps and a
couple of bungees. My only
complaint is that the spring-
loaded plastic cinch for the
pull-string is a little weak but
it's a minor flaw. high quality
I have a 19' Wenonah Itasca
and this fits it exactly. I
have to wiggle it a little to
get the last tip in but then
it is great! Good thick
material but have not put it
thru a season of Texas sun
yet. We shall see how it
