Customer Rating: 4.8 of 5
I own an Outback, a Pro Angler, a Revo, a Jackson Coosa, and now
an Ocean Ultra 4.3. All kayaks have pro and cons. The good: It is it
easy to handle out of the water and it paddles well in the water. It
has good fishing characteristics if use for what it was designed to
do. It is fast and stable while sitting. I can stand, but it is not
designed for that so it isn't stable or practical for standing. I find it
comfortable for about 4 hours of fishing. I would recommend this
kayak for open water. Cons: It did not have the two rod holders
directly behind the seat and also did not have the access hatch
directly behind the seat, but it did have four flush mount angle rod
holders. I guess they changed the design for 2016.
This is my first kayak, and I wanted something that I could take in
the ocean and fish. I did that for the first time a couple of weeks
ago. The boat handled great, and I felt very comfortable in it. A
friend, who went with me, was pointing out all the features of the
boat that I didn't notice. He felt I got a very well thought out boat
by people who knew what they were doing in creating this. I
purchased a rudder too. When the wind came up, I was able to
steer the boat with the rudder, and the wind took me all the way
across a bay to the boat ramp without having to paddle. The boat
is not too heavy for one person to lift and get on to a cart. I hang
it out of the back of my truck that has a frame coming from the
trailer hitch to hold part of the boat up. I'm now looking at adding
a sail to the boat. I'm glad I purchased this.
I purchased my Ultra 4.3 from ACK when the model was first
introduced. It has now made close to a hundred fishing and
exploring trips to the marshes. Have yet to use it off-shore, but
that is not why I wanted it. The 4.3 is lighter weight than most
similar size kayaks making it easy to load and unload off the sides
of roads where I usually launch. The deck lay out and center
storage were apparently planned just for me. I like that the large
center storage hatch opens to a fully enclosed, water tight
compartment that will not allow water into the hull. Never had ANY
water inside l from any hatches. The hull is quiet and faster than I
would expect for a 14,' yet is stable enough to stand and fish, or
just stretch my legs occasionally.
Pre-set/molded in metal threaded inserts are EVERYWHERE! In all
my rigging I have yet to have reason to drill any holes for attaching
anchor trolleys, fish finders or any other hardware. As for the fish
finder, the 4.3 is manufactured with the assumption that the
fisherman will indeed be installing one and everything is built in and
Wonderful kayak. Moves
effortlessly through water.
Have not tried it in the surf
yet. Austin Kayak is
great. Very helpful over the
phone. Worked with me
to get it delivered in a few
