As a sailor new to kayaking
and rather lazy to boot, the
sail has been a lot of fun. I
would advise people not to use
it in winds over 10 mph. I
have been playing with the
foot pedals while sailing;
there is a lot of leeway with
the pedals split and the fins
up. There is a bit of weather
helm it wants to come up into
the wind, which is probably a
good thing. Overall it is a
lot of fun and appears to have
a lot of thought put into it.

I use the sail on a Mirage
Sport - works great. I made a
furler for it, using some PVC
and line; with that, I can
furl the sail when the wind
kicks up. The furled sail
does make for some windage,
though. Adding a caribeaner
to the aft padeye makes the
line move easier. I havent
been able to rig the sail on
the water maybe a function of
old age and being less nimble,
so the furler helps. The
pedals in the mid position act
like a daggerboard. Not a
speedster, but it works.

The sail is easy to set up and
is a great alternative out on
the lake. I do suggest changing
out to a longer rudder when
using the sail.

The sail performs better than
expected. Wish it were 30

has been used in 20+ mph winds
with excellent handling. No

The sail works pretty well. I
was expecting that it would
only be useful downwind, but
it works surprisingly well to
windward (I didn't imagine
that I could keep a kayak from
capsizing while going to
windward). The mirage drive
works well as a centerboard.
I am working on figuring out
how to rig the sheet so it
works satisfactorily.

After reading the reviews I ordered the sail kit and it has been nothing but fun. So glad I got it. I found the stock rudder not able to steer the Outback in certain windy conditions so ordered the larger one and it solved the steering problems. Highly recommend both.

The Hobie Mirage Sail Kit is awesome; as per usual, Hobie thinks of everything! It's easy to set up, take down, and doesn't require much of a breeze to maneuver. ACK is exceptional in its service. My order was processed faster than I think I have ever experienced before by any merchant. I placed my order Tuesday and was sailing in Virginia on Saturday. Thank you ACK!

What can I say, Hobie engineers their products pretty well. I was very pleased to see the "Made in USA" label on the sail as well.

I like the sail, though I've not been able to catch much wind here in the South in mid-summer. It's easy to use and install. Looking forward to bringing it down to the coast next weekend. And Austin Kayak shipped fast, and had very fair price. Will do business again.

The sail kit is a perfect addition for the sailing novice. I added the Sidekick Ama kit for additional stability. Wind ranges between 10-15 MPH are perfect for this sized sail. Assembles in about 60 seconds and has a nice storage sleeve/bag. You'll love this!

Be aware that the sail can only be used in very light winds. Over 15 mph and my revolution kayak is very hard to control and almost tips over. It is a fun little extra when the wind is light.

Get one! I don't know why I waited this long to get this accessory, the Sail Kit added so much fun to the kayak. When the fish are not biting, I can easily sail over to a new spot. Fit & finish is excellent, they make a nice product. One minor enhancement I made was to clip on a carabineer by the aft carry handle, so that the main sheet line can slip through easily.

Caveat: I'm no sailer. My experience with an Oasis tandem: Would be fun if you are sailing in an area with light, very steady winds. But there seems to be no practical way to furl the sail
once the winds (and waves) get too high (don't even think about trying to take down the mast in windy conditions at sea), so you are left with a choice of either sailing way too fast for conditions and heeling too much and risking capsize, or letting go of the control line and having a wildly flapping sail. If I were to get
serious about using this on the Oasis, I would get the amas (outriggers).

I used the sail kit on East Park Res. in Ca. I had light winds for several day and one afternoon I got 15mph winds. I had a lot of fun with waves coming up over the bow. I also added the outriggers. They're great. I adjusted them up to get some lean. They make the boat very stable.

We just got back from St. Simon's Island and we used the sail on our tandem Mirage. It was fun, but we found out that you really need the larger sized rudder. So if you order the sail, order the rudder at the same time and you'll have more success with the sail. We can't wait to try out the new rudder! Have fun!

Surprised that it sails as well as it does. I use it in the more inaccessible areas of the lake where my larger sailboat will not sail. Stows easily when changing to pedaling or paddling.

I was anchored in Banks Channel, Wrightsville Beach, N.C. A couple on a Maine Cat had this sail on a kayak. They took turns cruising all over the bay all morning, going everywhere with a strong current. No gas burned. No norwegian steam(paddling) needed. Sweet. I have to have.

I purchased the sail rig to use on an Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT. I built my own mast step since the Ocean Kayaks don't have one. The rig is very well made and I was surprised that the sail is made in the USA since so many sails are made in Asia. On my OK I have no lateral plane (dagger board, leeboards) so I can only sail with the wind abeam or aft of the beam and I steer with my paddle but it is still great fun. I had the shake down in the Florida Keys after New Years and it was a blast, even in winds of near 20 kts, which was really too much; I capsized once. The rig is easy to stow and I am very pleased with it. Maybe someday I can use it on a Hobie kayak.
