I wanted to get a 12" cast iron skillet with
matching cover, and Lodge seems to have the
best reputation. I was disappointed when I saw
how rough they had left the surface, inside
around the edge where the bottom meets the
sides. The outside is beautifully smoothed but
I cook on the inside! Our 10" Old Mountain pan
is smoother by far, just as heavy and just as
well pre-seasoned. Maybe I'll just try to use a
polishing wheel and re-season it... not what I
expected.

Heavy! But I expected that.
I have used other Lodge cast
iron pans and found
them to be excellent, they are
easy to cure, and
maintain their finish well (as
long as acids are
not used).
Most people could probably not
handle this with
one hand but it does have
another handle for two
handed use.
Le Creuset may be a bit
lighter and have an enamel
finish but you will be paying
about eight times as
much!
