Comfortable, lightweight and portable cot. We use these for our family camping trips. After the first time assembling, quick and easy to set up. Very happy with this product and ACK service.

bought this cot for scouts, and sleep overs. compact, sturdy, and quality built. I found it easier to put the leg in closest and the put the other side in as you can get a better grip and angle for pulling. have not taken this camping but I think this would work well with out a pad. have purchased 5 so far. great compact cot. AK also has the best price on these.

Used for scout camping, personal camping trips, and around the house for sleepovers. Good for kids and adults, fits into small backpacking tents as well as family tents. A little hard for my wife to install the supports, but the rubber hand grip helps. Light and affordable, I bought 2!

So far, the cots have been comfortable for my kids and me. They have had no problem supporting all 215 lbs of me either. I like how compact and lightweight they are. Fitting the legs into the cot frame requires a little bit of elbow grease - my 12 year old son is a decent sized kid and he has problems doing it. My 10 year old and 7 year old cannot put the legs in themselves. Shipping and service through ACK has been top notch. Great price too!

Review:
We had not camped in ten years and were taking a 2 week trip in June 2011 to see Rocky Mountain national parks with our 16 year old. Tired of inflating air mattresses that soon had to be tossed, we bought our teenager a self- inflating mattress and looked into cots. I searched a lot and chose to buy the Alagash by Byer of Maine from Austin Canoe and Kayak. The price fit our budget and the four cot-wide support frame bars were tent floor "friendly" compared to cots with "feet." The ACK customer support was excellent and stayed in e-mail contact re: tracking shipping. The 2 cots arrived in 5 "real time" days. Set up was easy using the soft-grip handle, but would be hard without it. I lay on the cot and immediately was surprised how comfortable it was but was as quickly disappointed when I felt my middle are sinking enough so my lower back bone contacted the middle support bars. It was better on my side, but laying on my back I sank too much even when I shifted up or toward the bottom. We had chosen the 30" wide model thinking more comfort but I wondered now if the 25" would not have sagged as much. Regardless, the product said up to 250 pounds and I am 215 pounds, well below the maximum. The length was fine for my 6'1" frame. My wife was very comfortable. With only days before our trip, I decided to potentially forfeit the warranty and modify the bars. I hammered them to be wider and fortunately, that solved the problem after a few tries. However, that decision might have caused a later problem, I will never have a way to know for sure. First, we camped 8 nights and I slept like a baby. VERY comfortable and I did not use a pad. But after our second night at the Grand Canyon (50 yards from the North Rim!) I noticed that in the middle are of my cot near the side bars, there were two quarter-inch slits, not tears. I had slept right on the canvas without the sleeping bag and had something in my pocket so I might have caused the problem. Regardless, I will have to discuss with the retailer what kind of patches are available. The other problem is harder to pinpoint as a defect since I might have slept in both cots with my modified support bars. In the same middle area of the cots, the stitching of the side bar sleeves was loosening about a little less than a half-inch on both sides of the cots median on both sides on both cots. They did not worsen and I would not care if I knew they would not worsen. However, they have barely been used. I hate getting barely used things replaced because the new ones might develop the same problem and the waste really bugs me. A final thought is that they took minutes to set up and less to take down. Sometimes the bars were difficult to insert so I don't know if my wife could have always set the cots up alone. But SO much easier than air mattresses and we were both very comfortable. Austin Canoe and Kayak had a good price and terrific follow-up for such a minor transaction. I hope to discuss the issues I've mentioned for their opinion. I appreciate this opportunity for feedback, because not all businesses are willing to invite criticism. Good for you folks!
