First I should confess that I am NOT good with directions. BUT, with this compass strapped to the front of my Eddyline Fathom LV, I know know which direction is which! It happpens to fit nicely in the depressed hole that Eddyline left to permanently attach a compass. I chose this compass b/c I could attach/remove at will. The small bungees that came on the compass work great when attached to my perimeter lines. The compass stays in place when I roll or practice self rescues. It is easy to read from the cockpit.

Nice, low-profile compass. Highly visible numbers, even when mounted way forward on the boat.

I think this is the BEST non- permanently mounted compass out there. The Ritchie is too big, exposed, and fragile, the Suunto is nice but again fragile, this compass is just well thought out with plastic armor on top where compasses tend to get whacked with paddles and rocks. Also has cardinal directions designated with big, easy to read letters, instead of just degrees of azimuth.

Possibly the best kayak compass out there. I like this model so much that I hard- mounted two on my tandem sailboat (one in each cockpit), and I have a third on my touring kayak. PROS: stable, easy to read, large numbers, able to handle heavy waves and still pivot, accurate, all three have worked perfectly for 10 years. CONS: none so far.
