This is the first fish finder I've ever used and purchased. I got it for use on
my kayak (F&S Eagle Talon). For those looking to use this on a kayak
you're most likely going to have to make some sort of mounting rig. The
clamp is very large but doesn't really have much space. I couldn't get it to
fit over my kayak's side. I ended up just zip tying some things to mount it
on my yak. This is only good when I'm not in waves and don't have to
paddle. So for those looking to use it with clamp part ensure you have a
thin enough area to mount it. The clamp opens about 3". The clamp can
also be mounted with screws to a deck if you so choose. Other than the
mounting issue I really like it, and you can't beat the portability of the unit.
The side finder function is definitely helpful in shallow waters. Speaking of
shallow waters, be careful not to go to shallow or the transducer will hit
bottom and start sending you crazy numbers (this happened to me). From
what I can tell it functions just fine for a simple fish finder. Overall I would
recommend this for any small boat or canoe but not so much for kayaks
due to mounting.
Not that pleased--would not show the structures and trees
under the water like my stationary fish finder. It would show
the water depth, bottom contour and temp. good.. I was
expecting more for the price I paid.
