Something Unexpected Occurred...
An ACK favorite for the leisure paddler and angler alike. The Quest is comfortable, stable and reasonably fast. The cockpit is well thought out and there are numerous places to store all of your gear. The ease of opening and securing the front hatch is a nice change and the foot brace system can't be beat.

I bought my Quest when Hobie
still made them in orange. It
has seen rough water on the
bays of Houston and has been
shark fishing in the Gulf. When
it comes to handling the waves
the boat will cut right through
them which means the cockpit
will fill with water but drain just
before the next wave. I love
that it can go from the surf to
flat water and when the wind
comes a blowing the low profile
helps keep it from blowing
around. I have used it in fast
water and the round sides help
keep it from being flipped in
the fast eddies. I can quickly
convert from a fishing platform
to a nice touring style boat. I
have paddled many a kayak in
my years and I keep coming
back to my Quest. With all the
pockets, cup holder, large front
hatch, you can stow extra
rods, extra paddles, soft sided
coolers, tent...the list could go
on and on. I use the rudder for
bay fishing and drifting and
paddling skill for everything
else. The bottom looks like it's
been used as cutting board for
decades and it's been patched
a few times but would only
trade it for this 2014 model.
I have had my Hobie Quest for
two years and use it both on
saltwater flats and rivers. It
holds plenty of gear when
camping and handles well on
the flats. I do not have a
rudder and have only needed
one on a few occassions. In
general it handles fine
without the rudder.
I have had my Quest for 3 years now and I would not trade it for anything else. I have had other brands that were heavier and color faded badly. My Quest still looks new, paddles easy, very stable in choppy bays and swift rivers. I love it so much I think I will bay a second Hobie Quest.
Best buy for the money.
I have a Hobie Quest, and this kayak is really fast....Its not the most stable boat, but it will cover some major ground....I'm really happy with it....
I'm writing this for my wife, who bought the Quest fisherman at the demo day. She absolutely loves this boat, with one exception - get the rudder! I have a Tarpon 120, which tracks anywhere I point it, but her Quest wants to turn into the wind, and the harder the wind blows, the more it wants to head up. Otherwise, a very good looking boat, stable, comfortable, well thought out cockpit. She'd give it a five if it had a rudder (which it soon will have!)
