I've only had the chance to use these tails once (yesterday) with my 30" MSR Lightning Axis snowshoes. We had just gotten 20" of wet snow the day before. I did find the tails easy to put on. Regarding their performance in the deep, wet snow, however: the extra length they gave the snowshoes caused the front ends of the shoes to angle downwards, burying them deeply into the snow with each step. Shifting my weight further back toward my heels didn't improve the situation much. I am hoping the tails will work better in powder, but with it now being late March, I'll probably have to wait until next winter to find out.
These tails fit perfectly. A very clever design that requires no tools .Very light in weight. Love them they give me that extra lift when I am carry a heavy pack . Expands the weight range of your MSR Lightning snowshoes.
These tails are an absolute must. They offer great flexibility to give the extra floatation when needed and they come off when you are on packed snow. I tired with and without, in deep snow, glad to have them. I am 175 lbs loaded and have the 30" Axis. We got 20+ inches and I had a hard time without the tails. They are not all that easy to install or remove - not like the video on the MSR site shows. You really need to pull on the band and push from the bottom to get over the show frame but worth the effort. Get the tails!
