I just ordered this kayak on Thursday from ACK (Texas) and received it here (West Virginia) at noon the following Tuesday--2 1/2 business days. What service! It was extensively wrapped in bubble wrap and multiple layers of protection. The kayak looks sturdy and well built although it's too cold here to try it in the lake for a few more weeks. Great service.

So far, have only tried it in solo mode which worked very well, handling as well as solo kayaks. Its 13ft plus length allows very good drive and glide thru the water. Looking forward now to rides with wife and dog.

i was looking for a kayak which could take a fair amount of abuse and the kids could use as a float. This kayak fits the bill. It is not sleek or elegant but it remarkably easy to maneuver and held its course nicely.

This is an incredibly nice kayak. It is comfortable and nice with hatches, etc. Just purchased it and the delivery and customer service were excellent. I was very wary as I was ordering from NY to be shipped to summer home in South Carolina. It was the fastest and easiest shipping and ordering and such an incredible treat to deal with such an efficient staff. I will definitely recommend Austin Kayaks to anyone I know. I like the Malubu 2xl very much except for a couple things: first of all the seats could use more padding, secondly I am 62 and find the seat positions and foot wells about 6 inches too short to be comforable when paddleing with two people. My knees end end up in the air and it restricts my paddleing stroke a little. When I paddle the boat alone, with the seat in the solo position, the seating for me is perfect. Lastly, there should be additional sets of handles on the bow and stern to make it easier to roll and lift the boat when bing placed on the top rack of a vehicle. There is no good place to grab onto the boat when two people are lifting it.

Very happy with this kayak. Very stable and being able to use it as a solo is a big plus. I also have a OC Prowler 13 and the XL Tandem is just as fast as the Prowler even though the Tandem is much bigger. It is a little heavy and hard to load on the roof rack by myself. It should be a two person job. Used it in the surf for two weeks and is a little too long to be good at surfing back in. Still overall it is a very good kayak and I will be leaving my Prowler at home from now on.

Very tough kayak. This thing is big and quite heavy. You need two folks to load and carry this. However it zips through the water nicely and was easy to maneuver. This is so wide that the straps on my Thule roof rack would not reach around it. Get yourself some heavy duty ratcheting tie downs from Home Depot to strap it on to a rack. It rode OK in my minivan, but it may make a small car go all over the road at highway speed. I kept below 60 mph with it on the roof, as it was getting scary any faster than that.

I have had one of these for about 5 years and could not be happier. It has the middle position for when I am solo, three positions for when the family goes out. I use it for day trips, fishing and camping. Handles well, tracks well, handles the wind pretty well. I just bought a second and did not even bother looking at other options. Now five of us three kids can go out together. I believe it is rated at 450-500 lbs so plenty of capacity for people and/or cargo. I have loaded it up for camping on an island and it handled perfectly. If you are looking for a tandem or 2.5 like this, look no further. Both of mine are fishing packages.

Bought two tandems to use on a lake outside Houston. Used it for the first time the other day. Super stable and very easy to get around. I stopped turning into the wakes caused by passing motor boats- I didnt have two, the kayak could handle them sideways without rocking much.

I was a little sceptical about ordering this kayak and having it shipped to Georgia from Texas but it arrived with out a scratch. ACK did a great job packing it. Love the kayak size. Good for one or two people. I added rod holders and use if for fishing in the Gulf.

I bought two single kayaks from ACK, but needed a double kayak as well. The Wilderness System version didnt have good seats, and the knowledgable people at ACK suggested the Ocean Malibu 2XL. Great suggestion! The kayak is very stable, not too heavy to move around, and not any more difficult to paddle on my own than a single seater. I really love this kayak. I was also very impressed with how ACK packed up and shipped the kayak; it arrived quickly and safe and sound.

I bought this kayak because I wanted to be able to share the kayaking experience with my four year daughter. Safety and stability was my main concern;I assumed that this kayak would be big and slow and difficult to maneuver. However, I was extremely impressed with my purchase of the product and the customer service. I am a petite 5'2 female and I have no problems maneuvering this kayak with an active four year on board along with my gear loaded. I can move thru the water rather quickly as well. This is a great kayak for a family. My little girl can jump off and climb back on without turning this kayak over. Getting it in/out of the water I do have to use a cart. I shopped around before I purchased this kayak from Austin Kayak and they had the best price. The staff at Austin Kayak were extremely helpful and knowledgable.

I put this yak in the water today for the first time and was very pleased. The malibu 2xl is very maneuverable, tracks great and cuts through the water beautifully. I did a fair amount of research on this tandem and ACK had the best price anywhere on the web. You will pay a little more but this boat is worth it. One note---if you get a package that includes a hatch you'll be farther ahead than if you don't. Space is at a premium, even though this is a roomy kayak; but the added storage space you get with a hatch is invaluable. Overall, a great kayak. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Shipped quickly and safely. This is a good all-around kayak. Perfect size for 2 tall adults to take out, be it river or ocean. Standard seats are nice and comfortable and gaspachi hatch was relatively easy to install and it's a nice size. (Did not add rivets for clasp)

I've had my Malibu 2 XL for 3 years and have really enjoyed it. It's super stable, tracks very well, and is very versatile. It holds me and my 2 kids very nicely, but also paddles well solo. I've used it on coastal flats, in the surf, and in class II rapids (including Mariscal Canyon in Big Bend). Given its size and stability, it is obviously not very maneuverable in tight rapids, but that's not really what it's designed for. There is not a whole lot of storage on this kayak due to the rounded seats. I recommend buying the optional Gaspachi hatch for the center hatch port. The seats that come with mine are not very comfortable after a couple of hours, so I recommend upgrading the seat as well.

This kayak is very well built. It is built for speed with little effort to get it going. It's my first time owning one but have tried other brands owned by my wife's cousin. The kayak is very easy to carry and the design of the seats and where you put your legs are well in place. I even took my 18 month old son with my wife for a ride and we all enjoyed it.

The Ocean Kayak Malibu 2XL Tandem Kayak is a perfect boat for a family. It is comfortable with lots of room, tracks well, and turns just fine. On flat water with one adult and one kid (about 270 lb load) we really don't need the scupper plugs.

This was my first kayak. I needed one that would fit my 4 year old son on it with me and still have room for gear without feeling cramped. This one was perfect. I got the yellow one and I must say it is a great looking kayak. (Very easy to see on the water by boats too.) My son was standing up and jumping off of it as soon as we got 20 feet out into Estero Bay. And he was able to climb back in very easily. I never once felt like we were going to tip over. Very stable. The seats that came with it also seem very comfortable. This kayak can handle light to moderate chop with no problem. I am 6'2" and 195 lbs. I was able to lift this kayak onto my roof rack by myself with relative ease. I researched a lot of Kayaks before I bought this one and this one always seemed to have the best reviews. Now I see why. It's a little more than some of the entry level tandems, but it's worth it. I ordered it on a Monday and it came that Friday from Texas to Florida. So far after only 2 trips with it, I give it an A+.

Great boat! Comes with a lot of extras--paddle keepers, center cargo strap, 2 seats, carry handles on the sides and front/back, and two deck lashings. We had 3 hatches installed by ACK. Stable and comfortable! Great tracking and not bad speed wise. Easy enough to load and unload for my wife and I. It is a good all-around fun kayak. I plan on using it for fishing--bought 2 Scotty rod holders!

Researched the options for a tandem or single sit-on-top kayak big enough to include my future 80 lb. lab, Charlie. Purchased an outdoor dog bed to place in the front footwell compartment for her as she slipped around on the plastic. We love this kayak for Lake Norman. Sturdy even when the boater's speed by and easy to maneuver even with one paddler. Versatile with the seat placement adjustment to include another person. Very happy with my purchase.

The Malibu 2XL is a great kayak! I am 6'5" and weigh 220 pounds, and have no problems paddling solo, or with my wife and kids aboard. The kayak is very easy to transport alone, however, shorter folks may have prolems loading in on top of a van or SUV. We have used it in the Atlantic Ocean at Hilton Head, SC, and in rivers and lakes here in West Virginia. It's definitley not a whitewater boat (the Gauley or New Rivers), but does handle moderate moving water ok. Austin Kayak was great to work with and their customer service is A+. If you are looking for a kayak to go solo, or with other paddlers, then the Malibu 2XL is the boat for you.

Bought 2 Ocean Kayaks this summer - a single and a Malibu 2XL - we are very pleased with their performance and maneuverability. We are inexperienced kayakers with 3 small children and they work perfectly. Highly recommend! Considering how large and stable this boat is, it's light. Not that much heavier than my Scrambler XT. I ride my 120lb Rottweiler around in it and it feels quite stable. I weigh 240lbs and I took a friend out fishing in it (his weight 250lbs) and we were able to fish sitting on the sides with legs in the water while boats and jet skis whizzed by all day. The boat tracked well while we fished with fly rods drifting in the current with all that wake going on. The boat stayed fairly straight while we fished. Not a real fast boat like skinny boats but fast enough for our purposes. When leaned hard on it's side it's stability seems to get better. Not sure if you can turn it over. I've been kayaking for 30 years and this is the best do everything kayak I've been in. The capacity and stability and weight(considering the size)are amazing.Ocean Kayak did their homework when they designed this boat.

This kayak is bigger than I expected but, once over the initial shock, we love "them." I bought two for my daughter and I and her two children. It makes it easy to move around, the kids can jump in and out of the water easily. We're hoping to kayak with manatees next weekend. My only suggestion is to try to "see" the model for real if possible before buying. But then again, I would probably not have bought these if I'd seen them first, and they're perfect. Austin Kayak has excellent service. I rate them 5-star as well.

This is the first kayak I have ever owned. Very durable and easy to maneuver. I am 6'4 and 200lbs and still need a little more room for the length, but this one works pretty great. I would recommend "up front" buying seats that have cushion. Have had a problem with my legs getting a little numb if I don't shift my weight often. JUST received the "SWOOSH Extreme Kayak Seat Cushions" to see if I can eliminate the numbing affect on the legs!!!! We shall see...but am having a B L A S T with the kayak.

I actually got the Malibu 2xl for a wedding present, and it is the best kayak I have ever been in. Tracks great, very stable, and very fast. The handle broke but I got the replacement handle in a day, great great customer service.
