Something Unexpected Occurred...
While doing a night dive on a local lake I used my new Princeton Tec Eco Flare Personal Locator Light so that I could be easily identified by everyone in our drive party. The feedback I received from my group was that I could easily be seen from long and short distances. I believe this is due to the different setting options on the Tec Eco Flare. At one time I even dropped it into the water while re-entering my kayak and was able to make the easy retrieval due to the brightness of the flare. The fact that it is water proof up to 100m gave me the peace of mind that there would be no water damage.

Kinda get what you pay for I guess. I have yet to try this on the
water, but I did hook it on the back shoulder of my PFD after
putting the batteries in it. I'm not sure what to do with the extra
bulb, so I taped it to the inside of my kayak dash. It's smaller than
I though it would be, but I only hope to use it in emergencies and
if I do any night paddling. We'll see how it works this spring on the
Unit smaller than I expected but that is a good thing. Well
constructed and long battery life.
The incandescent mode and red flashing mode actually
describe 2 different bulbs. The product has no storage
receptacle for the bulb you're not currently using. Unless
you have very slender fingers, it's difficult to grasp and
remove the bulb because it's seated at the bottom of the
concave reflector. It's also a challenge to insert a bulb,
since it has 2 little wire prongs that must be inserted into
the openings of 2 tiny tubes. You can't see the openings
because the bulb blocks their view as you're inserting the
bulb. A funnel shaped extension at the end of each tube
would have been helpful in guiding the wire prongs into
the tubes. In short, don't plan to change bulbs in field
conditions. The thin wire of the little "key ring" doesn't
seem strong enough for securely attaching the light.
Great as a back up light, this
is not meant as your main source
of light and it was purchased
for back up and safety, cheap
Excellent light. Very bright. Great for a personal locator on a life jacket.
Very Very Dim, not worth carrying. Switching bulbs is a true pain, one bulb kills battery, the other is like I said, very very dim.
The light is just right to keep securely attached to a life vest. I keep the intermittent blinking bulb in it now. I have a Princeton Tec headlight for better illumination, but it's good to have a light that you know will be with you at all times. Sometimes dusk just comes in quickly on an evening that is clouding up, especially in the fall.
