ACK Review: I was really happy when I bought my Advanced Elements Axis Breakdown Paddle when I took my trip to Washington to visit Beacon Rock. I took a survival backpack and my kayak stayed locked up to a tree in my campsite. I also brought along a little whitewater boat that I took places my car wouldn’t go. Because my paddle was collapsible and fit in my backpack, my hike was painless and the ride was great.

I was very happy with the paddle except for a visual defect. The company told me to return it because it wasn't right so I'm waiting for the replacement now.

I bought this paddle as a spare. I have not actually paddled with it yet. I like its portability and light weight. I was not impressed by the workmanship. The pieces fit loosely together and on one of the end pieces, the fiberglass wraps were delaminating. I covered all of the ends with a few wraps of duct tape to tighten the fit and prevent further delamination. I paddle hard for many hours at a time and am skeptical that the paddle would survive with such loose fittings. It should suffice as a back-up paddle.

I bought this paddle to be my spare. It's a real gem! Of course, it's not as light as a Werner CF, but it isn't $450, either! That said, it is a very light paddle, and it breaks down as you want it, either 2 or four pieces. Shaft is a good length for most paddlers, so you can lend it to someone in your group if needed. Blades are also well designed and executed. Shipped quickly from ACK. Great merchant!

Love this paddle so much I bought 2 of them. Lightweight with a nice color combination & a 4 piece break down to boot.

First, kudos to ACK for prompt shipping. Arrived just as promised. Regarding the paddle.. :-( I do need a four piece paddle, so I know my choices are limited. This one is heavy! Perhaps I'm spoiled from the carbon fiber paddles I'm used to, but ick. And it clocks in 4 oz, heavier than advertised. The quality is generally fine. However one of the holes is misdrilled and it won't reach the spring- load button lock. So the shaft won't lock and the paddle is useless until I either re-drill the hole or cut back the end of the pole about 3/4". Either way, not what I've experienced with any other paddle.
ACK's Response:
Mike, give us a call and we will either swap this out with a new one or help you choose one of the many other 4 piece paddles available.

Who needs a paddle that breaks down into four parts for easy transport? You do! So much easier to store and carry than even two-piece paddles. Never worry about having to borrow a paddle on any trip, just bring yours with you.

Review:
This paddle is great. I need a paddle that would breakdown in 4 pieces for easy handling in a back pack during adventure races. This does the trick. It is light, stiff and efficient. The paddle surfaces are large but not unwieldy. The only thing I would have liked to see is the center pieces be exactly the same length. They are slightly different and for me that sometimes makes it a bit harder to pack. Little thing and not a big deal. would highly recommend if you need a paddle to fit in smaller spaces.
