Something Unexpected Occurred...
I believe the most important issue concerning flotation devices for paddle sports is maneuverability. If I can’t get a full paddle stroke because I am impeded by my vest, then I consider my PFD purchase trivial. I don’t have that problem with my Hobie Inflatable PFD. There are other inflatables out there but they do not have back straps which keep the flotation tubes square on your chest. Nor do they have the easy self-inflating system such as Hobie’s T-handle pull. My jacket gives me the range of motion, and the comfort I want when I am kayaking.

I own a NRS Chinook life vest
which is a very good kayak
fishing vest with lots of storage
pockets. The Hobie inflatable
life vest is a lot less bulky and
very comfortable to wear. I
spend about 5-6 hours on the
water when I go out. The
weather is usually in the 90's
so the Hobie inflatable helps
me stay cooler and gives me
more freedom of movement. It
does have a zipper pocket on it
that you can use for small
items. I prefer this vest due to
comfort and freedom of
movement. Excellent quality
and fit, I am a big man at 5'11"
245 lbs. and has more
adjustment for bigger people.
