First off - Let me just say
how awesome customer service
is with ACK!
I drive a brand new Nissan
Frontier Crew Cab SL with
factory rails and crossbars
the flat blade style. I had
been apprehensive about most
mounts as they all seem to be
designed for square or round
bars. Turns out the Even Keel
mounts work extremely well
with my factory bars and grip
it very tightly. Their low
profile looks great on top of
my truck without the kayak and
cushion it well when its in
the saddles. I highly
recommend this product to
fellow Frontier owners who
dont want to spend a fortune
to haul around their kayak.
Having an empty truck bed
gives me lots of options.

Put these on a 2013 Outback
with factory oval bars. My
last
subaru I did the yakima towers
and round crossbars. This time
around I wanted to see if I
could get away with using
factory oval
bars. Against a lot of reviews
Ive read, these saddles are
awesome!! They hold the boat
as secure as anything Ive seen
and
they grip and do not budge on
the oval bars. Just took a 500
mile
trip with a 21ft surfski and
felt totally at ease with the
ride. Im
purchasing another set to
replace some J-cradles.

I agree with everyone , the
grips do not tighten on round
crossbars an continue to
seperate , Funny Yakima only
makes round bars so this
product does not work on their
own bars works better on
square bars that Yakima does
not make
I would find another product

Fit very well, except they do not grip my Oval Toyota cross bars very well. I tighten them as tight as a dare for fear of breaking them, and they still separate after only a 2 mile journey through town. It seems this products greatest feature is also its biggest problem. They will in fact fit almost any type of bar, but because of their universal fit, the don't make good contact, and thus are not very secure. If You have a boat that has a relatively flat bottom I.E. a fishing kayak as opposed to a touring kayak, You probably will not have this problem, but skinny round bottom boats probably will.

This is a relatively low price kayak carrier system, and you get what you pay for. The saddles are padded and have some flex in them so they don't scratch or dent the kayak bottom. However, they do not grip a round bar very well and tend to drift apart allowing the kayak to wedge itself downward, resulting in loose straps and a kayak that is resting on the bar. I called Yakima about this and they did not offer a solution other than to say that the saddles grip better on square bars. I was able to correct the problem by connecting the two saddles on each bar with some line, thus keeping their spacing constant. Yakima should address this issue, but until then I would not recommend this product.
