I have been waiting for this boat to arrive, and now I finally got the best combination boat for whitewater and touring. On a recent trip down the Devil’s River I was very glad to have to ability to switch from the low profile back band when the water got rough, to the higher seat position for more support when the water was more relaxed. The flip top backrest works great, and easily converts from high to low, allowing me to put my skirt on very quickly. I enjoyed the way the Fusion River Tour S tracked and I did not notice any unnecessary drag when the skeg was deployed. All in all, this boat has great performance and is very fluid for leisurely touring without sacrificing one for the other.
The Pyranha Fusion kayak is very light and performs well
in fast water. It handles well and is very maneuverable.
The skeg keeps it going straight in flat water. This kayak
has become my primary one even though I have 3 other
kayaks. HOWEVER! Be aware that if you will be
traversing rivers with shallow, rocky areas you may want
to consider another kayak. The Fusion comes with a
very rough texture bottom which hangs up on anything
you encounter in the shallows. I ended up sanding mine
down and waxing it which pretty well removed the
problem, but that may eventually be a problem if I have
created weak spots as a result of removing the protective
plastic surface layer. Just so you know!
I was in heaven the moment I started to paddle
