Transporting a canoe can be difficult because a canoe doesn't like to stay in place on a roof rack very well. The Malone BigFoot Pro Canoe Carrier is designed to keep your canoe from shifting on your car when hauling down the road to a trip or back from one. The BigFoot fits almost all factory and manufactured roof racks which is great when it comes time for a new car your still ready to go.
Customer Rating: 4.8 of 5
Love the Malone Bigfoot carriers! They are made in the USA! The
quality and design is great. Easy on and off, and adjustment. The
price is fantastic compared to Thule and Yakima. You get bow and
stern tie downs as well as two straps. You do not get that with Thule
or Yakima! With the universal fit system I don't have to worry about
having to replace them because of a rack change. I own other Malone
products and wouldn't hesitate to buy more!
Great product. Transported
canoe 1200 miles on top of
Toyota Sienna, absolutely no
problem. Tie down technique
is critical. I followed the
instructions I found online at
the Red Rock Store site. Only
changes were putting a twist
in the straps on the sides to
prevent harmonics building up
and causing vibration.
Traveled at 70 mph no problem.
Works great on a Toyota
Sienna.Very solid holddown.

I own a 2010 Subaru Outback. I transport a Wenonah Spirit II Canoe. This gunwale system can not be installed as instructed because the canoe is too wide, despite the clamps being installed in their widest positions. In order for this system to work, you have to install the brackets in reverse. Instead of the rests being placed on the outside of the canoe, they face outward from the inside of the canoe. This works to prevent the canoe from shifting across the roof rack. This approach is inconvenient when loading a canoe by yourself. You have to approach the car from the side, heave the canoe gunwale over the first set of rests, slide the canoe across the rack until it hits the rests on the other side, then you have to go to the bow and the stern to lift the canoe over their corresponding rests. Despite the inconvenience, I like the security that this system offers and it is easy to install. I would improve the package by including hood straps.
GREAT PRODUCT. EASY TO INSTALL, MAKES IT VERY EASY FOR ONE PERSON TO LOAD CANOE. I AM HANDICAPPED AND HAVE NO PROBLEM
