 Product Description and Specs

The Torqeedo Ultralight Electric Trolling Motor is an electric outboard that is suitable for kayaks in that it is extremely light and also watertight. The Torqeedo Ultralight Electric Trolling Motor fits onto almost any kayak by using The Torqeedo Ultralight Electric Trolling Motor. It is much faster than a kayaker can paddle, and provides a worthwhile range on a full charge to get you to those remote locations and back. The Torqeedo Ultralight Electric Trolling Motor weighs only 15 lbs including the battery. Alternatively, the motor can be connected to the rudder or the steering system of the boat, which makes it very maneuverable (e.g. for fishing). All components are watertight and protected against complete immersion. The motor shuts off when the magnetic key on the remote throttle control is removed. Therefore, for safety reasons, the magnetic key should be attached to your wrist or your life vest. If the kayak capsizes, the motor shuts off automatically to avoid possible injury. Charge time with the included charger is approximately 8 hours and does not have a memory-effect. Generally, a loss of capacity of 4% per year can be assumed. Aging is accelerated if the battery is exposed to high temperatures for long periods and if it is stored fully charged for long periods. Therefore, the battery can be used in very hot conditions, but should be removed from the sun and stored in a cool place when not used.

ACK Review: Powerful and light the Torqeedo ultralight electric trolling motor is great for slapping on the kayak and using to cruise up and down the lake and getting after the fish.

Review:
I installed the Ultralight on my custom built cedar strip 13' kayak. They should call it a "turbo thruster". The combination of paddling and electric gives it such speed you feel like your planing. A very impressive piece of equipment. German engineering lives up to it's reputation. Evidenced in the manner that parts fit during installation. The exact wattage consumption readout allows the user to monitor the power consumption. I found that one of the really nice things about adding electric is my hands are free to pick up a camera and get that shot without losing control or momentum. Expensive yes, but quality lives long after the price tag fades. My only complaint is that the installation guide could be more detailed with a parts description, propeller depth recommendations, etc. I hear a solar panel will be available soon for remote charging capability.
