Definitely worth the dollars. Ive crossed a lake with and without the rudder deployed, and with and without wind, and it does make a noticeable difference. The instructions really really need to be updated and made more coherent. It does slam pretty hard onto the stern when retracted, Ive put a small piece of foam on the very end of the stern as a cushion.

The rudder kit was installed by ACK so I cannot comment on installation. Using the rudder did prove to be helpful but it does take a bit of playing around to find a straight line. Once you get comfortable with it there are no issues. Pulling the rudder up and down does take a bit of force so I only wonder how long the ropes will hold up. All in all a great and must have accessory.

This was installed on and Ultimate 12. You will need help from someone when installing the bracket on the stern unless youre more flexible with much longer arms than any one I know. Dispite this, once installed the difference in the control of the yak is well worth the price.

Once you have a rudder you can not go without it.On windy day it take half the time to get from point a to point b. If you are not use to installing things get a freind to help you, I am use to it an it took me three hours to install it.The instructions should be better illustrated. The kit was complete with all the mounting parts.

I have the Ultimate Tandem model. My boat came with the rudder installed. It works!!!!!!!! I really can't imagine having this boat without the rudder.

Having a rudder in the ultimate 14.5 tandem should not be optional in my opinion. The installation instructions were horrible and it took me all day to install it. As a research scientist, I do not think that I am stupid.....but the directions for installation sure made me feel that way.

I love the Rudder but not happy with several parts and cables being missing! Also I was'nt aware that if your Ultimate was made before 2008 you had to buy a bracket to mount it. Thankfully I found a Native dealer close by that had some extra parts so I could get it on in a hurry. I the company should make sure all the peices are in the box before shipping.

I installed this rudder kit on my ultimate 14.5 solo Fairly easy to install, requires just a few basic tools.Directions need updating,read through a couple of times to save yourself some steps. I didn't really enjoy my kayak till I installed this kit. I would not have another 14.5 without a rudder, but that is my preference.

Great product. Be prepared to send 2-3 hours on the install. Directions are a bit vague but you can figure them out with a careful study. eg No need to cut stern rope on newer models. Also cable penetration on the stern is pre-molded no need to measure or place holes where the directions say. Once installed very versatile between single or tandem.
