Love the length of the 280 cm paddle, (the real measurement 9'
2") and I think once I work out a technique for it will be
completely happy with it. However, a quality control issue
occurred while using the paddle. Both paddles unglued from the
shaft and hade to be re-positioned often in order to finish the
paddle. What ever it is the folks building the paddles are using to
glue the paddle into the ends of shaft they need to switch to
something else. I repaired my paddle using a urethane based
adhesive and those babies are in and tight now. Otherwise I think
I'm going to like using this paddle with my Mohawk Odessey solo
boat. So much easier to paddle and control, very powerful in fact.
The perfect paddle for my Jackson Big Tuna at 280 cm. I prefer
paddling in the "high" seated position at all times, so I need a longer
than average paddle, and this one fits the bill perfectly. It's still very
light for being so long, very solid fit and finish, and the perfect no
frills paddle that I can use all day long.
My husband is 6'4" and needs a really long paddle. We found
about 2 paddles on the market that were long and weren't budget
busting. I ordered it for Austin Kayak (ACK) paddle unheld. It was
delivered lightening fast - about two days. Wow was I surprised
when I held this paddle...it is SO light weight!! I have a light
weight carbon fiber paddle, that is shorter, and I think this weighs
about the same. Really impressed for the size of this thing.
Husband loves it, it's perfect. ACK was super fast shipping oh and
there was a mistake when the order was placed (hubs actually put
in a wrong address) and when I called them, even though it was a
fairly long weight to get someone, they were professional and
polite and made the switch for me. Love the paddle, love ACK,
won't hesitate to buy from you again.
Nice paddle. Used it today with my Old Town Discovery 119 solo
canoe. 280 cm. model. Lightweight and strong. Got the canoe up to
speed quickly, and very easy to turn and maneuver. Shipment came
quickly from ACK, the guys even called me about 15 seconds after my
online order to confirm my address. Great customer service.
Nice paddle ...........light weight and balances nicely. Not the color I
wanted,it's striped not dark like the add.Too much hassle to send
back.ACK, you should send what you show.
I Love this paddle I reccomend it to everyone ...
I paddle a 13 foot GHeenoe with it
Bought this when one of our group cancelled our annual canoe trip
so I would have to paddle the canoe solo. I tried my 215cm kayak
paddle but it was way too short. With the 280cm double blade I
could go faster than my other 2 friends with canoe paddles
(although they were more heavily loaded than I was). A real plus in
a strong headwind. We all tried the paddle and it was nice to just
change paddles throughout the day. They are now considering them
for our next trip. Just for info I got the 280cm paddle. I am 6'2" and
paddled a Wenonah Adirondack solo, we also used an Old Town
Discovery 169 and an Old Town Penobscot 16RX.
The guys at ACK were very helpful on the phone and delivery was
very fast (standard shipping)
This paddle (280cm) works well for for paddling my Old Town Saranac
146 solo in the middle seat. After my first fishing adventure using this
paddle I installed padeyes on the bottom side of the gunwales just
forward of each seat and bought the small coil paddle keeper for this
paddle. Because of it's length the paddle can be easily knocked
overboard. With the keeper attached, overboard along side may be
the preferred place for the paddle while I am moving around in the
canoe, and yes I keep a spare paddle stowed away just in case.
Our florida rivers are very sluggish. I paddle a 16' Mohawk, from
the 70's. It's a great canoe, but very slow in our rivers using a
traditional canoe paddle.
Now, with the Slice Glass Solo paddle, it is no problem to scoot
down our rivers, and paddle upstream. This paddle has made a
huge difference. I was about to give up and go back to the
kayak......This paddle is very well worth it all! Thank you Austin
Kayak for your great suggestion.
I thought I'd screwed up getting a 280cm double end paddle it just
looked so long (~9'-3"!) but it's works great solo paddling my canoe.
So much easier than a single, especially if bucking some wind. And
Terrific paddle for solo canoes. I
know it sounds like 280cm is
awfully long, but it is simply
suberb. Don't hesitate on this one.
Excellent Paddles! Works well with
our Old Town Pack Canoes.
Awsome supplier ACK!
