ACK Review: Works great for outfitting our whitewater kayaks or canoes. Soft and durable. I use the closed cell foam for many applications.

First I want to apologize for the duplicate previous posts - my internet is so slow I couldn't tell the first one was sent. Today I completed installing the foam blocks into my stitch n glue canoe. It went pretty well but took a couple days while I waited for glue to cure. I used Weldwood latext contact cement on the blocks I attached to the inner sides of the canoe. For under the seats, I added a wooden frame that was screwed to the seat crossbar and glued with Gorilla Glue. The Gorilla glue also took to the foam and is holding it in place. The wood frame is intended to make sure the foam can't escape. I glued 1 inch foam on the top of the seat for floatation and comfort. I think I'll order 2 more blocks of the 2 inch thick foam to add to the bow - that should put about 450 pounds of buoyancy into the canoe and I can feel better when I get on a big lake. Its not the prettiest but I'm all for safety. I'll post photos of the install on this blog.

I bought several blocks of this foam to add safety buoyancy to a home built stitch & glue canoe. ACK could not give me a buoyancy rating for the product so I conducted my own test. I'll try to include a drawing - should have done a photo. The 2x12x24 inch block would float a little over 30 pounds in the water. I'm really impressed. I hope to attach the foam using contact cement and some strapping. The blocks I have should support about 390 pounds. I have been looking for a product like this for the canoe for a couple years. I'm very pleased w ACK's service and willingness to ship US Mail - the only affordable option where I live in bush Alaska. I am considering replacing the failing urethane floatation in my 18 foot power boat too - but need more research. Since I haven't got the foam installed yet my rating is based on the great service, good price and making available what appears to be the ideal product for my needs. Since its polyethylene I am hoping for good durability.

Hard to fully rate this at this point but I want to pass on some info. First the price seems good, ACK was excellent to work with. I've been looking for this kind of product for a long time to add durable floatation to a home built canoe. I haven't installed it yet. Just tested for buoyancy: I suspended a sack of rocks from a 2x12x24 inch block of foam and put it in a lake. The foam would float a bit over 30 pounds of rocks - I'm impressed. I hope to install about 400lbs worth of foam buoyancy in the canoe using contact cement and some strapping. Since it is polyethylene I expect it to be quite resistant to sun, gas, other solvents. I am considering replacing the failing urethane foam in my 18 foot power boat with this now too. I'm especially pleased that ACK would US MAIL this product to me in remote bush Alaska - where other carriers don't serve or charge a fortune. thank you.

Used it to make floatation in recreational kayak. The product was as advertised and was shipped quickly. Easy to cut with a saw and worked well for the application.

The foam was the best I have ever purchased. I will continue to purchase from ACK. The price was very reasonable. I purchased a number of different sizes and they all were of the same great quality.

For those that go through the world never feeling the need to modify or personalize their boats, this stuff is irrelevant. For those that do, its esswential.

More for the money, works great as plug for kayaks with hole in bottom. No seepage through the cell foam. Great product.

Very easy to cut with a kitchen knife. It appears hard at first, but conforms with body pressure and heat. I placed three on two malibu two xls. has worked out well. i still use comfort deluxe seats, but my family enjoys the extra cushion. i would recommend.

Pretty sure I didn't use it for it's "target" purpose (padded the bottom of a cargo bike) but this was delivered fast, inexpensive and worked perfectly.
