If you are outfitting a Hobie for fishing this is the one you need. This holder has nearly an 8" lift above the Ram base, so you should not be hitting your rod butts when pedaling your Mirage Drive. If you buy the standard Ram rod holders you may have to buy the extenders (nearly $40.00 each) to clear your pedals. The trade off is that these are a combo holder---ratcheting design on the upper adjustment (like a Scotty), and Ram ball adjustment at the base. For my money these are the way to go.

I ordered this rod holder because It gives a lot more flexibility in rod position than the scotty with less effort. The finish isn't very good and required sanding on the molding seams due to sharp edges. It is a quality product and performs as advertised.

As previously stated in the ratings - lots of rough edges. Rough to the point you could easily cut yourself if you aren't careful. They lost a star because I had to do some hand sanding. Functionality = 5 stars. This rod holder has the ability to hold more rod/reel combos more efficiently than the Scotty - I've had both - the Scotty will reject a low profile bait caster.

This is a great product. I have two on my kayak. One of them is in front of me and one is mounted on the left side behind my seat. I also placed pool noddles on both to place any used lures on them so I can clean them after a day of fishing in the salt. I have replaced all my Scotty mounts with Ram products because I like that I can move/adjust them a lot easier if needed.
