This product would probably work well for holding a gps, fishfinder or a rod that you just want to keep off the deck of your kayak. It is not suitable for trolling and that was how I had intended to use it. Even after tightening the screw down very hard, it is still posible to rotate the ball by hand. With the additional torque provided by a 7' rod, a very weak pull on the line will cause the adapter to rotate in the base. I tried this with both a scotty gear head and also a scotty flush mount. Do not buy this product if you want to use it in a trolling set up with Scotty mounts. ACK refunded my money with no hassle, however I did have to pay return shipping costs. I hope somebody reading this review will be able to avoid that expense in the future.

Review:

I purchased this to mount a Ram rod holder to my existing Scotty mount. Torque the screw down and it's lock in tight. I could pick up my Pro Angler by this if I wanted!
