Its pretty good for children because it is easy to paddle because the sides are narrow. It can go pretty fast and makes a tiny wake!
My 9 year old granddaughter fits into it but the back strap fits poorly with her PFD, a solid seat back would improve this tiny, tippy kayak.
The Perception Acadia Scout was recommended to us by neighbors who have two of these kayaks for their kids. We purchased one for our boys, ages seven and five, to take turns using on the Cacapon and Potomac rivers in West Virginia. Our older boy has taken to it and likes to paddle up stream. I like this boat because, at around 25 lb., I can easily carry it. It seems to do well in the water, in part, because of it is longer than some. I am likely to buy another one next year so the boys can float together.
My wife and I bought these for our 8 and 11 year old daughters. The boats are simply great. Both girls can keep up with the adults with no problem. They track very well and both girls agree that they are very stable. I've read some negative reviews on these boats but really don't understand how someone cannot love this boat for a young paddler.
