I purchased this kayak so that I could go on multi day kayaking trips with my son. He is a veteran at long trips: Lake Tahoe, Lake Mead, Lake Shasta, Colorado River, etc. He recommended the Necky Looksha 14 saying that it is light enough for me to load on a rack, but still having a great carrying capacity..(He has a Necky 17). It's true, and I do want that tough hull so that I can beach the kayak on rocky beaches. I love that rudder and the foot pedals work great. It is difficult to raise and lower the rudder when seated in the kayak, just not enough mechanical advantage. I installed an Island Hopper outrigger kit because I did not want to deal with roll overs, but had to do a great deal of engineering to strengthen the attachment to the hull. The stock kit is whimpy plastic and will break at the first big broadside wave. The great thing about this kayak is that it got me into a big winter kayaking training program. It's a real challenge to get into physical shape to paddle for eight hours a day at age 82, but I'm hammering it! Hooray for Necky.
