The Backpackers Cache Bear Resistant Food Containers are designed to slip into a backpack and hold approximately 6 days of food. They are expert tested (by bears), and have proven very effective in not only reducing odor transmission of the food inside, but also in keeping even the hungriest of bears out of your food supply.

Garcia Backpackers Cache: Bought one in the mid 90s. Used in Yosemite before it was ever required, and still use today. It works great as a seat and is Easy to open in cold/hot/any weather. Turn upside down if heavy rains happen. Its bulky, and the weight adds up after putting food in, but that's to be expected with all canisters. I have a bear vault 450 and gave that two stars but will still use for two day trips. I use a bear canister for food protection from all animals including birds, not because its required, or to save the bears either. Enjoy the best: Garcia Backpackers Cache.
It does exactly what it is supposed to do: keep critters and bears from food. Solid black is better than the clear blue containers. Very easy to open and close lid. Due to weight I would only pack it when absolutely required by park/forest authorities. But it is perfect as a sitting stool in camp, so maybe I will bring it other times as well.
