The Backpackers Cache Bear Resistant Food Containers are designed to slip into a backpack and hold approximately 6 days of food. They are expert tested (by bears), and have proven very effective in not only reducing odor transmission of the food inside, but also in keeping even the hungriest of bears out of your food supply.

This container does the job. Can't imagine a bear being able to get into it or carrying it away, it's hard for me to hang on to! But, it's easy enough to open if you have a coin, knife, or something thin (I use my spoon handle), and just as easy to close and lock. It takes up a bit of space in your pack, but I hike with my hubby so he has it in his pack and I carry other jointly used items, and it works out great. We did a three day backpack trip and had more than enough food for both of us in this thing. I like it!
Garcia Backpackers Cache: Bought one in the mid 90s. Used in Yosemite before it was ever required, and still use today. It works great as a seat and is Easy to open in cold/hot/any weather. Turn upside down if heavy rains happen. Its bulky, and the weight adds up after putting food in, but that's to be expected with all canisters. I have a bear vault 450 and gave that two stars but will still use for two day trips. I use a bear canister for food protection from all animals including birds, not because its required, or to save the bears either. Enjoy the best: Garcia Backpackers Cache.
