The Liquid Logic Replacement Skeg Kit is the OEM replacement Skeg Kit for the Liquid Logic XP9 and XP10. Includes a replacement skeg, spring, cable and stopper assembly. Installation requires a tape measure, cable cutter and a 1.5 mm Allen wrench.
I'm giving 5 stars but that's more because of the great ACK than anything. I broke the skeg on my Remix XP9 so I decided to order a replacement skeg kit to fix it and another as a spare. When I got the kits one of them was missing a small part, the skeg cable stopper. I sent a email to ACK customer service advising them of the issue and they replied the same day and within two days I had the little part in my hand. Sometimes stuff happens, its how they handled it that made the difference, great job ACK. Oh, and the replacement skeg kit is great too, easy to follow instructions and simple to replace and my XP9 is back in the water.
ACK was excellent (5 Stars) on prompness, but the liquid logic installation was painful - close to 2 hours. Recommend not cutting wire - measure & mark, run through kayak, attach small screw at end and THEN trim cable. Most of us don't have sharp enough cutters and cable will frey, making almost impossible to then slide into hole. Trimming after install is much easier. There are also part modifications that could have been made to simplify this process. Skeg works great after install.
Do not order this kit. Call ACK customer service and order the NEW 2015 upgrade kit that is available for these boats. Cable is routed from the skeg in the new kit and should have an upgraded retainer. My cable retainer failed & I emailed Liquid Logic as follows: I said "Skeg deployment design flaw. Skeg operation passed prior to river entry. Skeg was left in upright position. When deploying skeg was needed, found slack in cable and discovered broken skeg, lost spring, and cable end retainer missing. It has been determined based on missing cable retainer. Failed retainer caused skeg to deploy and was broken when contacting a solid in a sideways manner. Skeg remaining piece left behind indicated that skeg had to be in vertical position, only possible with cable retainer failure. It is suggested that factory crimp redesign be at skeg end and cable threaded backwards to control lever and customer applied crimp there. Repair kit for skeg should not be at my or other customers expense due to the flaw of this design. You should at least have pulled your 2014 and prior skeg kits off the open market and state that your NEW 2015 upgrade will address the old issue and offer only that kit for sale. You did not remove it. As I have already purchased a 2014 kit from Austin Kayak, I am stuck with the same problem and will have to improve your flawed design myself. I noticed others have still had an issue with your new design. This is the second issue with the same Kayak, the first being that you did not design the seat back to be tall enough. That required the purchase of the optional seat back kit." Liquid Logic has poor customer service !
Overall perfect: reasonable price quick delivery easy installation = happy kayaker
