Pros: solidly built, tows beautifully, easy to assemble, good instructions, sure beats lifting my kayak on top of my minivan. Cons: expensive, incandescent lights instead of LEDs, wiring is unprotected (recommend spiral wrap or something similar; there are a lot of sharp edges), instructions should have a section for those who buy the retractable tongue kit at the same time (not too hard to figure out though), U-bolts aren't very elegant (but they do the job). Other: took the trailer on an 800+-mile round-trip fishing trip and had absolutely no problems with it at speeds up to 70mph (normal cruise was 65). After the trip I noticed some wheel bearing grease splattered on the inside of the rims; hopefully this isn't indicative of a problem with the bearing seals. Recently I built a deck for it out of 1/2" plywood and bolted a 48-gallon Rubbermaid Action Packer on top to hold my gear.

The little trailer is perfect for me.!! I am a 55 yr old women with some knee and neck issues and loading my kayak onto the roof of my Ford Escape was a challenge. Assembly was done by my husband and son. It took about 5 hrs to complete. They had all the right tools in their shop which made it easier. The directions sent with the trailer where great, follow them!! I could lift it and move it around pretty easy but to save my back I did buy a swivel jack with a wheel and installed it on the tongue. I had 2 more J-cradles and put them on so I could haul 3 to 4 kayaks. I have not hauled more than 2 kayaks yet but do not fore see any problems. The tie down straps that came with it work great. My Escape is only a 4 cl engine but has no problems pulling this trailer. It pulled nicely behind the car with no swaying; I never go over 60 miles an hour. I have driven long horse trailers before and can back one good so I had no problem backing this trailer. The long tongue put it far enough back behind the car that I could easily see the trailer. Within a few days after I received the trailer kit I receive the manufacturer’s certificate in the mail. There was no problem getting the tag and title for it. I live in NC. I can’t say enough good things about this trailer. I guess I could have bought a utility trailer and rigged it up for a kayak hauling but this trailer is just perfect. I love it!!!! I have recommended to all my kayak women friends. I would have attached pictures but didn't see that option on this review page. American made too!!! Thanks Malone!!

Top Question & Answer
Q: I am interested in purchasing a kayak trailer. I am considering the Malone MicroSport Trailer MPG461G2 or MPG461GS, I have 2 kayaks that are about 15 feet long. With either or both of these trailers allow me to transport these boats? If I purchase the MPG461G2 what is the distance between the racks. I am thinking of using a Thule storage box. Also, is the trailer shipped to my home or can I pick them up at the Spring store? How do you register the trailer in Texas? Thanks in advance.
A: I recommend the MPG461GS if you are transporting the kayaks for long distances, because it will have better aerodynamics. If you purchase the MPG461G2, you will need to add an additional 3rd crossbar between the 2 standard bars to install a Thule storage box. We ship via FedEx and UPS so it will be delivered to your door, or you may arrange a pick up at a store location. In order to register the trailer, you will need the Manufacture Statement of Origin and the original receipt we provide you with your order. The Texas Department of Public Safety will process this paperwork so you may register your trailer.

Q: Can the racks and this trailer support two hobie pa 14s?
A: The J Cradles included on they package are not compatible with the PA because if its width. You are better of laying the kayaks right on the crossbars with pads. Make sure you ask for the "crossbar upgrade" which gives you 78" crossbars instead of the stock 65" because otherwise the kayaks will not fit. The upgrade is $29 and our customer service team can help you with that request. You can contact them at 888-828-3828
