We have had the thule glide and set for over 4 years and it is a wonderful product. They are installed on round Yakima cross bars and work great. We use the system for hauling a Malibu two XL 14 foot ocean kayak and that thing isn't light. We use it to take the kayak on vacations that are 500+ miles one way. My wife and I can load and unload in a few minutes. We use a rubber backed carpet up over the back of our Freestyle and it slides up onto the glide pads just as slick as can be. I can't imagine we would use our kayak two or three times a week if it weren't so easy to load and unload. So long as we have a kayak we will have the Thule glide and set to transport it.
I have the yakima 300 outdoorsman rack system in my pickup with the round cross bars. I bought the Thules thinking they would provide easier loading for my ocean kayaks. They dont. If I had the square cross bars, they would probably work great. But the mounts do not stay in place during load-unload, with the round bars.A pain for solo loading.
Typical of everything that I have ever purchased made by Thule, this is quality. It fit the Thule square bars I had in place. I just finished a1200 mile road trip carrying my kayak without incident,
I bought the Thule Glide and Set Kayak rack after purchasing a new car because I was told my Yakima saddles wouldn't work on the new rack. The Thule components were easy to install, but they seems to slip around when loading the kayak and don't seem to provide as much support to cradle the kayak. But saddle-type systems, whether Yakima or Thule are superior to J-style cradles for solo loading (I am over 50) on top of an SUV. ACK provides excellent service, as usual and the package arrived earlier than expected.
