Ocean Kayak Ultra Ice Box Storage Pod 

I have been testing the Ice Box Storage Pod for the last 2 months and I am hard pressed to find anything about it that I dislike. Having this accessory in my kayak is far better than dragging fish on a stringer or even having to put them in a tall Coleman cooler. Pros: Being able to just turn around and throw my daily catch in a cooler is by far a great thing for me as a kayak fisherman, but certain coolers can be too tall which can make my kayak top heavy and more prone to tipping over. The Ice Box sits very low into the tankwell area keeping the weight of my fish and ice distributed low in the boat. I also found that the lid to the pod can be switched to open from either the right or the left which is a convenient option to have. I know I am more prone to open things on the right so I switched the hinges over and it was very easy. Additionally I also enjoy the fact that the entire cooler can be anchored into the boat. The cooler comes with hardware that mounts right into the boat on each side. The rubber arms latch onto pre positioned buttons that are mounted on the cooler and anchors the cooler securely into the boat and keeps it there even if I were to flip. I also have noticed that even in the sun the cooler keeps good ice retention. This is key to keeping fish fresh because the last thing I want to have happen is all of the ice to melt and then have my fish soaking in water all day long. The longer the ice stays intact, the colder the air in the cooler will stay thus making my fish fresher. Cons: The one thing that can be frustrating about having a cooler that takes up the entire tankwell is that I really don’t have any space to put anything else in the back of my kayak. But if I do not put any ice in the Pod I can easily turn it into a type of storage container, so there are ways around the storage problem. I would like to see a place to install a pump on the pod to turn it into a recirculating livewell to keep bait alive or possibly even fish alive for people who want to enter fish in live weigh in tournaments. Overall: I have been extremely happy with this product and has made my Ultra 4.7 kayak an even better boat overall. I give this product 5 out of 5 stars.
