The Malone Retractable Tongue Kit allows you to quickly retract the 8 ft tongue back into your MicroSport Trailer frame for easy and convenient storage. Fully assembled, the MicroSport is 164 in. long. With the Retractable Tongue Kit installed, the trailer can be reduced to 103" long. The kit can be easily retrofitted to any Malone trailer and is permanently installed with a few suggested tools in 30 minutes. This kit does NOT fit the Malone Xtralight trailer.

The wiring instructions for the trailer should include instructions for wiring if you have the retractable tongue kit. If you retrofit the retractable tongue after the trailer is built, you really have to do a lot of wire cutting and splicing. I knew the wiring would change with the retractable tongue, so I ran the wires in a way that seemed more sensible. I didn’t care for the twist-on wire connectors or quick splices, so I soldered all the electrical connections and covered them in heat shrink tubing. I also didn’t like just having the wires exposed and running through holes with sharp edges, so I enclosed them in wire conduit. It does take some effort to retract the tongue and then extend it again. But the trailer does store upright nicely in my garage, and there is still room for my truck.
Great way to free up garage space. Unfortunately the tongue bracket on my unit wasn't quite square out of the box and the tongue requires a rubber mallet and some WD-40 to slide back and forth. The extended wiring harness doesn't have a full length ground wire, so the trailer body is grounded wherever the tongue contacts the tongue bracket; this may eventually lead to intermittent grounding problems. I'd recommend covering the wiring with spiral wrap or something similar to keep the wires from rubbing directly on the tongue (there are a lot of sharp edges, and no one wants a short in the middle of the night). The instructions assume you've already assembled your trailer; it would be nice if there were modified instructions for those who buy the trailer kit and this kit together (not hard to figure out though).
