ACK Review
This is the right kayak for the paddler that wants to play around in some whitewater, but also tends to find themselves in flat/still waters. With the skeg down the boat paddles as well as any 10 foot rec kayak, but with the skeg up, its all play!!! With the optional skirt, the Approach can be rolled - trust me - I've done it!

Review: I have had my Kayak for a while now and use it for ocean/inlet/whitewater... The kayak is a well made kayak for the most part, there were a few cosmetic blemishes for it being a new kayak. The blemishes you could tell where made from manufacture, I checked the date made and it was made almost a full 2 years ago. Hopefully by now they have corrected the small problem, because its rather a moot point because all kayaks end up with scrapes on them. The only other grips I have are the stainless steel hardware have some slight rust/corrosion since my boat spends most of its time in salt water. Not a problem since its easy to swap out the few bolts for a higher grade marine stainless. Next would be the seat, I had to add foam for added back support. The seat only supports your lower back and supplies almost no mid support. I am not sure how to go about fixing that problem with out more foam but I will figure something out. My wife's Wilderness Systems boat has a much nicer seat (made 2010) with full back support. The only other problem is the dry hatch leaks, and is more of "kinda wet hatch". Dry bags are a must. Now for the good, I have this boat in waves and tricky current water and it preforms really well. A spray skirt is a must for waves breaking over the bow. The boat does great riding waves and can turn on a dim with the retractable skeg up. The boat has no problem in very shallow water (3") and up. I needed a cross-over boat for calm and turbulent water. I have the boat filled with 8 inches water and kept a float just fine (took a few set waves over the bow and filled the boat with out a spray skirt on). As for paddling speed its not that fast because of it being a crossover but it can keep up with boats just fine in the same size. I have been out in several different boats and I would buy this one again with in a heart beat. It just needs a few tweaks to the dry hatch and seat to make it a 10. As for ACK the price seemed good and it shipped out fast.

Review: OK, this is definitely my last addition - played with my Approach 10 in the gulf at South Padre recently - first day there were 10' swells, I had a blast riding them, watching the fishing and tour boats turn around and go back in because it was too rough. Used the Seals spray skirt, never felt out of control, it was a perfect beer drinking platform. The second day swells were down to 6', so we cruised up the beach, staying just outside the surf break zone, again in perfect control, even when a huge swell broke just before getting to me, I was sideways to it, thought I was going to die, but the surf just pushed me sideways and went under and past me, leaving me still upright and wondering what just happened! This seems to be a do everything (except long distance) boat - LOVE IT!!!!

Review: Just a further note - I've been out in 30mph gusts this last week, and I take back what I said about this boat being slow - it sits low enough in the water that I could make decent headway into the wind, while my buddy in an OK Prowler 13' was dying. No longer will I be sad and not paddle when the wind is up - this boat handles it!

Review: This boat puts a huge smile on my face! I haven't used it in whitewater, but have put some miles on it on Lake Austin and Lake Travis. With the skeg down just a little bit, she tracks great. She rides on top of the water, doesn't cut through it, so it's not fast, but I was looking for something to get a workout while my wife can keep up with me. HOWEVER - with the skeg up, on big chop and boat wakes, she surfs, spins, handles great, and is generally a kick in the pants to be in. Cockpit is roomy, it's quite stable - my favorite play boat!
