When I first looked at the Kelty Yellowstone 4 Tent Footprint I thought to myself...uhhh couldn't I just use a tarp? Which is what I have used in the past. Then I thought about all the crap I went through every time I camped out and threw the giant tarp on the ground and then listened to it crinkle throughout the night. Not only that the tarp took up more room in my pack than I wanted and was always a pain to clean. The first time I used a footprint I found that it fit the tent perfectly, kept me dry, help up to sticks and was very easy to clean when I got it home. The whole thing fit into a small sack that stowed nicely in my pack. I get it now.
